In the early 1940s, a politically ambitious butcher from West Virginia named Bob Byrd recruited 150 of his friends and associates to form a chapter of the Ku Klux Klan. After Byrd had collected the $10 joining fee and $3 charge for a robe and hood from every applicant, the "Grand Dragon" for the mid-Atlantic states came down to tiny Crab Orchard, W.Va., to officially organize the chapter.
As Byrd recalls now, the Klan official, Joel L. Baskin of Arlington, Va., was so impressed with the young Byrd's organizational skills that he urged him to go into politics. "The country needs young men like you in the leadership of the nation," Baskin said.
The young Klan leader went on to become one of the most powerful and enduring figures in modern Senate history. Throughout a half-century on Capitol Hill, Sen. Robert C. Byrd (D-W.Va.) has twice held the premier leadership post in the Senate, helped win ratification of the Panama Canal treaty, squeezed billions from federal coffers to aid his home state, and won praise from liberals for his opposition to the war in Iraq and his defense of minority party rights in the Senate.

Sheets Byrd gets a pass by Dummies, yet Thurmond was castigated by Dummies.
Any doubt that racist KKK members are welcome in the Dumorat party are hereby erased.
Democrat Party the Party of anti-semitism, racism, and anti-American policies.
“Bob Byrd recruited 150 of his friends and associates to form a chapter of the Ku Klux Klan.”
And then, of course, we saw the rise of an acknowledged murderer being re-elected over and over...Ded Kennedy (D-HELL) may he never rest...
So if we claim we’re a Democrat we can use racist statements???
This is really very simple: Democrats take care of their own - Republicans don’t.
Here endth the lesson.
Just....WOW! OUTSTANDING!
You’re right there.
I am severly PO'ed that only Michael Steele (who isn't my favorite pubbie to say the least) is the only one who stands up and says this is a double standard.
Every elected pubbie on earth should be in front of a microphone saying the same thing!
How many Black people and Jewish people died because of Byrd’s actions?
It’s ironic that the very people who were abused by the KKK continue to elect one of it’s leaders.
You are correct, of course, but Harry will remain in his leadership position, for whatever reason.

You are correct, of course, but Harry will remain in his leadership position, for whatever reason.
So if, according to Democrats, Harry Reid has apologized and it is now a “done deal,” why did they carry on so long after the SC senator’s personal apology to Obama for saying “you lie”?
It was hardly a "youthful indiscretion".
If you check out the Setting the Record Straight Vids, it explains the mindset.
Blacks were threatened to either become Dummies or die.
And the Dems went on to prove it with lynchings, burning schools, churches etc.
You would think that when Eisenhower broke the Dum racist control Blacks would have taken that freedom to choose for themselves. But then the practice continued by preventing Blacks from any meaningful chance of advancement in business etc.
Fear is a powerful tool.
And Dums have a history of using it to maintain their plantation mentality.
They have just decided to make the plantations an equal opportunity oppressor, ie: socialized Medicine, cap and trade and the list goes on.
but the Rats and MSM are the masters at revisionist history,
That argument doesn't hold up when one considers how the Democrats reacted to Chris Dodd saying this of former Klansman Robert Byrd:
"I do not think it is an exaggeration at all to say to my friend from West Virginia that he would have been a great senator at any moment. "He would have been right at the founding of this country. He would have been in the leadership crafting this Constitution. He would have been right during the great conflict of Civil War in this nation."
Democrats defended Dodd back then they way they are defending Reid today.
