As Florida Republicans struggle to define their future, a towering figure from the past has returned to call the shots. Former Gov. Jeb Bush retreated from the public spotlight when he left office in 2006, becoming almost reclusive. But in the last six months, Bush, revered by the party's conservative base, has reasserted his influence and is helping remake the state's political landscape more to his liking. In the process, Bush has dimmed the star of Gov. Charlie Crist.

He's still an open borders "make-em all legal" politician. Deal breaker for me, I'm afraid. Besides, we've already had too many Bushes as president, and the results have not been good. As a senator, he'd be OK.
Revered?!?!?!?!
You see, there are morons, even on this thread, who would vote for Jeb Bush. These are the same people who would vote for McMoron. Or Huckabee. And others.
I keep asking, who ARE these people? Well, they're right here. Obviously, they are Republicans, and NOT Conservatives.
I want nothing to do with a Republican, unless he/she is a Conservative.
We've got a major problem here. Conservatives vs the Republicans. And it looks like the Republicans are in the majority. That's why we're in the mess we're in.
Conservatives and Republicans are NOT the same animal.
Absolutely no more Bushes!!!!
They are a very nice family, I’m sure, but this country can’t take a chance with RINOs ever again.
We are truly in a disastrous mess, and the Bushes (all of them are contributors to our predicament today). GW of course must take the responsibility for the most missteps and his in ability to state clearly, protect and project conservative principles.
The Bush family is not conservative. They have no respect for the sovereignty of this country. Both of them pushed a devastating immigration bill. Though GW did some good policies in place after 9/11, he continued to keep all our borders open and increasing visa activity to people who have no business being in this country. And Jeb, as someone mentioned, would not allow drilling off Florida shores, again as RINOs do, keeping our ability to be energy independent unreachable. They behaved exactly as the fascist Democrats behaved about getting this country off foreign energy supplies. Disgusting!
GW and the RINOs are culpable for putting us in such a weak position going into the election season in 2008.
Granted the electorate is utterly stupid, but Bush refused to speak up for the American people who are now forced to march in the streets in hopes of being heard (hasn’t worked so far, the ruling class couldn’t be bothered).
Now we have a dire situation with tyrannical “representatives” determined to turn this us into a fascist state.
NO MORE BUSHES.
My local weather girl did the same thing.
Jeb has no scrotum ... feckless pol is not something we can now afford to elect knowingly.
No more Bushes. Same for Dole, Ford, McCain, Romney, Huckabee, Pawlenty, Steele, Graham, Pelosi, Reid, Clinton, Carter, Kennedy, and definitely no more Obama or other pinko commie fags.
I live in Florida, so don't try to BS me. While I wouldn't say he was unpopular, most accurately, he was part of the background like most Florida governors.
The State did very well during his time in office,
Mainly because of his brother's fake real estate boom. Other than that it was business as usual.
his spectacular leadership during several years of disastrous hurricanes.
Like I mentioned in another post, what did he do that the local weathergirl didn't do?
For Jeb, running against Nelson and taking that seat back would be a welcome decision.
I never cared much for Nelson, but he's not the worst Democrat you'll ever see. And if Jeb ever takes office again the first word out of his mouth will be amnesty.
Liberal Bushbot?
If Jeb runs for President in 2020, he would be 66 years old. That’s a bit too old.
No more Bushes. Please.
Haven’t you heard, 60 is the new 40?
If he endorses Rubio (now!) he will burnish his conservative creds, which could use some help.
Isn't one of Jeb Bush's son's being groomed to be president?
Isn't one of Jeb Bush's son's being groomed to be president?
Jeb was a good gov and is a most capable politician,
I would like to see him run in a district to unseat
dems in the United States Senate.
Having Rubio and Jeb would be a great start for the 2010
elections.
No kidding. Kemp would have been so much better.
// I would like to remind everyone and the Governor that Janet Reno didn’t wait to hear from the Florida court before she went in to take Elian Gonzales. Janet Reno did not wait for the Texas court before she went into the Branch Dravidians compound at WACO. If Governor Bush had taken that one final step, Terri would be among us today. //
Thanks for your post. What a horrible time that was, and what a water-shed clarifying event.
Outstanding post!
