"DETROIT, Jan 11 (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co (F.N), swept the 2010 North American Car and Truck Awards at the Detroit auto show on Monday, marking only the third time in the 17-year history of the award that a single automaker has claimed both titles.
A panel of about 50 U.S. and Canadian automotive journalists named the Ford Fusion Hybrid the car of the year and the Ford Transit Connect the truck of the year.

Don’t celebrate too quickly: I think the Ford Transit Connect is the one Ford import with the seats installed, and then rips them out and trashes them.
I’ve got 2 F150s sitting in my driveway right now.
Transit Connect? Ew. Ugly.
I think both awards were given on fuel economy alone. Which is lame.
Do two F150s equal one Chrysler 300?..........
A Chrysler 300 might wish that.
I have a 06 F-250 and an 08 Escape Ltd.
I have only owned Ford trucks since my 79 F-250.
Never had a major mechanical failure except a 5 speed tranny on a 91 F-150. but it had almost 200k on it when that happened.
The Escape is an excellent vehicle. Comfortable. Drives good. Good gas mileage and has the capacity to haul major luggage or other cargo.
The truck pulls a 30’ Travel trailer with little effort. Although gas mileage sucks, I bought it knowing I needed something that will do whatever work I expected and fuel mileage is secondary.
The Transit Connect is advertised as having seating for two to five folks. I'm guessing on the two-seat models, they either ship without the back row, or, in a pinch, the dealer could remove the back row. I looked at one of these on the lot. Quite frankly, it looked very useful for urban settings. I would like to point out, however, that the mileage for this utility vehicle is quite low given the powerplant and vehicle size. I had a full-sized Buick Regal GS with a supercharged 3.8 liter that got better fuel mileage than this truck is purported to get with a 2.0 liter - even with my lead foot. My folks own a 2006 or 2007 Lincoln Town Car with a V-8 that also gets comparable mileage.
We’re on our third Ford Explorer. Great vehicles.
While I think Ford is a great company, these awards are PRESS awards and the fact they went to these vehicles tell you where the PRESS is... FORD makes great vehicles, but neither of these 2 vehicles are all that exciting, except to the press and greenie weenies. They aren’t bad vehicles, but they aren’t car or truck of the year candidates.
Seriously the TRANSIT is the “TRUCK OF THE YEAR”??? Are you kidding me? The Hybrid FOCUS is the “CAR OF THE YEAR”??? Be serious, if that doesn’t tell you how left of Hitler the automotive press is these days in terms of what they consider important, I can’t tell you what does.
Don’t get me wrong, they are both fine vehicles, but vehicles of the year??? I don’t think so.
Holy cow.. what lame even contenders to be car or truck of the year.. not a single real Truck, nor an exciting car at all... How sad.
Still union built. F Ford.
Me, F150, F350, Lincoln Towncar.
I have a Fusion and I love it!
That focus is pretty nice looking for a little car.
Next rig for the wife will probably be a mid-size crossover.
Still union built.Which "union" would that be?F Ford.
The Fusion Hybrid is built in MEXICO.Please confirm the UAW status of the plants which manufacture these two "award-winning" vehicles. And the Transit Connect is built in TURKEY.
