The nations first elected African-American governor said on Sunday that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) should apologize to the entire country for his comments about President Barack Obamas skin color.
The Reid apology should be to the totality of the American people, said Doug Wilder, former Virginia governor, on CNNs State of the Union. The unfortunate thing is that one snippet illustrates the need for more open discussion about race.
Wilder was referring to comments that were published in a new book, "Game Change," in which Reid is quoted as having said that the president had a good chance of winning the 2008 election because he was "light skinned" and had no "Negro dialect."
Wilder was first elected to office in 1989. State of the Union host John King said he covered that campaign and asked Wilder what he would have thought if King had said, Youve got a good chance of winning because of your skin color.
I would have thought you were from another planet
that you were not aware of real Virginians, Wilder said. Obama wasnt elected because he was or was not of any color.
“llustrates the need for more open discussion about race
People are not allowed to have an open discussion about race for fear of being called a racist by the race hustlers like Al Sharpton, et al.
Only in America does speaking the truth get you in hot water. Of course, only if you’re white. If you’re white you have to be careful what you say less you be called racist. If you’re a member of a protected minority on the other hand you can say whatever the hell you want and be called a community leader.
And Wilder is full of crap. Obama was elected ONLY because of his race.
Reid should only apologize for Ignorance... BUT he cannot do that as He is Permanently stuck on STUPID which is TERMINAL and Incurable.
That is a load of BS. Color was the only issue. Anyone who doesn't get that is only kidding himself.
It would help to know what words are allowed in these discussions. Perhaps Mr. Wilder or people like him could publish a phrase book that would translate what people have said into what would be acceptable.
Examples would be translating what Harry Reid said, what "baby mama" alternative is acceptable, etc.
Reid should apologize to America when Obama apologizes to America for talking about typical white people.
I don't suffer that problem. I say what I think and damn the results of doing it.
Lott said: "When Strom Thurmond ran for president, we voted for him. Were proud of it. And if the rest of the country had followed our lead, we wouldn't have had all these problems over the years, either.!!
Bill Clinton said: "Years ago he would serve us coffee!!!
BTW, Trent was not off the mark, just see the mess we are in today!!!!
A few years ago, this guy would have been getting us coffee.!!!
I am with you on that!
I have NEVER understood why people are so Cowed by being called a Racist.
I’m sure as helled not scared of being “classified” and therefore A$$-Hats like the Sharpton’s and Jackson’s of the world ... are powerless to do me harm!
Au contraire, the only reason he got a pass from the media, indeed even ass-kissing compliance from the media, and got so many people to vote for his historic candidancy, is his skin color.
Yup, just color Obama totally white and you have a cocky smart-aleck freshman.

“Only in America does speaking the truth get you in hot water”
Sometimes it seems that way, but it is actually much worse in many other parts of the world, such as Canada and most of Europe. The government can actually imprison and fine you for making insensitive comments.
Color was the only issue. Anyone who doesn’t get that is only kidding himself.
You got that right because Obama doesn’t have any other qualifications to be president.
Who would step in if Harry Reid stepped down? Would any rat be a better bet for that seat in the 2010 race? Is Reid the next unwilling human sacrifice in the name of Obamanomics and Obamacare?
