Sharpton was on FNF trying very hard to make that argument. He was twisted into knots trying to say that “is was an insensitive” remark but not racist. Thought is was a zen moment. OTOH Clinton's coffee remark was racist according to the “Reverend”.

Reid: Quick, issue more government cheese. You may think that's a joke - but Reid's actual strategy is just that. It's being reported as pointing out Repub senators' voting records on minimum wage, education funding, community policing and AIDS - as if black people are defined by their challenges.

Reid's actual strategy is just that.Good point. This can be turned around on the dems, too.
"Democrats define African-Americans by their weaknesses. Republicans define them by their strengths." (Or something similar.)

The word negro is still used in some instances. One still hears of negro spirituals, and one still hears about the Negro Leagues in baseball. I do not think Reid was out of line referring to a negro dialect. Even if he'd referred to it as some other kind of dialect, he would still be dissin' the way some bruthas talks.

Quick, issue more government cheese. Or, as 0bama stated it, "social justice".
