A doctor convicted of assaulting two bicyclists by slamming on his car brakes after a confrontation on a narrow Brentwood road was sentenced today to five years in prison.
Christopher Thompson, wearing dark blue jail scrubs, wept as he apologized to the injured cyclists shortly before he was sentenced.
"I would like to apologize deeply, profoundly from the bottom of my heart," he told them, his right hand cuffed to a court chair.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Scott T. Millington called the case a "wake-up call" to motorists and cyclists and urged local government to provide riders with more bike lanes.

It’s quite obvious if you have half a lick of sense.
Critical Mass speaks volumes for bicyclists.
Wow, a rational voice.
As a cyclist I don’t mind being delayed for 30 seconds to a minute while passing one or more fellow cyclists, but it chafes me to be stuck behind a obviously moronic or incompetent driver who is costing me the same amount of time. :-)
Most bicyclists also own cars, and pay taxes.
Cops should start ticketing ahole cyclists for obstructing traffic and not obeying lights and traffic signs. The fact of the matter is that they are much less visible than automobiles, trucks or even motorcycles so cyclists need to take extra care to follow traffic rules as a result.
Critical Mass.
Nice job with that pesky 10%, btw!
I pay a TON in both federal, state, and local taxes - should I pay more just to ride my bike a few hours a week?
So this MD showed immediate remorse and did not come of up with a plausible defense like a cute little kitty ran in front of me and I had to stop suddenly? For this show of honesty and remorse he gets five years in the slammer?
Doctor, meet crazy Dr. Dean
You misspoke...
I would have no problem paying a bicycle license tax in addition to a vehicle license tax.
And of course the tax would have to be equitable based on the empty weight of the vehicle.
Set that price at $1.00 per pound of the vehicle and I would pay $17.50 per year for my 17.5 pound bike and you will need to pay one dollar for each pound of the vehicle you drive.
The San Antonio motorist was not charged who who hit and dragged the Bruehler's to their deaths as they rode their tandem in a bike lane in San Antonio.
Any of you anti-cyclist, crazed-motorist-apologists on this thread want to tell Kylie that her parents had it coming?
Here's another madcap doctor. He needs no introduction.
Well...don't forget the joggers and walker's...on that road. And for good measure throw in the potential horse back riders....
We must tax them all!!

That’s right. The motorists should sit down, take a stress pill, and think things over. I honestly mean this! I can understand how people might feel frustrated and angry being stuck behind bicyclists on the road. I don’t understand how they can reinforce and incorporate this feeling into their philosophy of life. C’mon, Kumbaya, people. Oops, I know, red flag.
One of the funniest clips I've seen....
Agreed. The mistake this doctor made was to not finish the job by reversing and telling the cops they swerved out in front of him (dead people make bad witnesses).
Want respect on the road? Start paying to use it like the rest of us, until then stay on the f-ing sidewalk unless you want to get pulped into the road by my wheels.
