A doctor convicted of assaulting two bicyclists by slamming on his car brakes after a confrontation on a narrow Brentwood road was sentenced today to five years in prison.
Christopher Thompson, wearing dark blue jail scrubs, wept as he apologized to the injured cyclists shortly before he was sentenced.
"I would like to apologize deeply, profoundly from the bottom of my heart," he told them, his right hand cuffed to a court chair.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Scott T. Millington called the case a "wake-up call" to motorists and cyclists and urged local government to provide riders with more bike lanes.

I am suggesting that if you know for a fact that it is happening that you should turn in the offender.
Too bad for them. Nobody died. And I'll bet they were riding tandem when the doc cut them off. Selfish jerks.
Feel free to address the question, instead of dodging it.
I am a biker, but I only ride on a secluded, paved forest path here in Florida, no cars allowed. I just want to zone out on my bike, I’m not interested in riding in traffic at all. There’s too much road rage, too many people not paying attention, including myself. Worst thing I have to watch out for on my path is a rabbit or a dog off its leash...or a random, stray, angry pitbull that chases me o0!
That may be true but it seems the intent to harm or injure was found in this case. Not allowed in my book.
Feel free to prove your statement.
Cutting other traffic off gratuitously like this is at the least a moving violation in any locale. This medico has a history of this, however, which is why the hammer came down.
I'll go even further...Some of the most lying corrupt people I have ever met, outside government, are lawyers and their co-conspirators, that many times happen to be doctors...lol
LOL!!
Most?
Hells bells, man...I rarely ride on anything but dirt...or gravel.
And I know hundreds like me...........
That, I was unaware of. Adds a wrinkle to things.
I was referring to those who ride on congested main drags.
You’re right. In Brentwood he should have assaulted with a knife in order to avoid prison time.
Of course...You can deny this....sure..lol
Boy, I dunno. I used to ride when I was young. That’s enough for me to empathize. Of course, I only occasionally encounter cyclists en masse. It does seem that one is required to go more slowly for a few moments, or even minutes. But to me it is an occasion for contemplation.
I am by no means immune from the impulses that lead to “road rage”. My daily commute is just a few miles and lasts a few minutes, but that doesn’t stop me from fuming over being held up by a slowpoke. I do, however, hear a still small voice that says, “Stop being an a**hole.”
I've seen it in person, in a court room.
Me, too. But when the spandex crew is riding three abreast, all that hate comes rushing back...
But that's not what you said........
Refer away....
: )
FRegards,
What about cyclists hitting motorists, as is the case here???
Aren't they one in the same....??
Don't forget, car owners pay the gas taxes. the bicyclists get a free road.
