One quote really hit home for me last week. It is quite typical of a certain kind of paranoid conservative subculture; it reflects conspiracy theories, and its motivated by extreme antipathy to Barack Obama. Heres the quote: President Obama is leading an extreme, left-wing crusade to bankrupt America.
If you spend much time reading far-right and so-called Tea Party blogs, you will be familiar with this theme. The idea is that Obama is a secret Muslim communist whose goal is to destroy US capitalism through fiscal collapse in order for the government to take over the remnants of a dying market economy. Or something like that. All future debt is Obamas fault (even though the majority was inherited and the rest skewed by the recession). And this, the argument goes, is deliberate. The cited quote is given extra piquancy by using the term crusade, subtly invoking the theme of religious warfare in a Christian battle against a supposedly Muslim president.
Who uttered this quote? John McCain. Yes: John McCain. Why? Hes facing a tough primary challenge for his Senate seat this year from the far right, and this is the only way he thinks he can survive. And, as we know, McCain will say anything and do anything to maintain power. If youre looking for his soul, try eBay.
Now take another extraordinary quote. This one came immediately after the Detroit underwear bomber near miss, and argued that Obama was deliberately allowing the US to be attacked by terrorists, and refusing to take the threat seriously as warfare, because accepting the existence of the terror threat doesnt fit with the view of the world he brought with him to the Oval Office. It doesnt fit with what seems to be the goal of his presidency: social transformation...(continued)

How’s your hero doing on the gay marriage issue Andrew?
To your point, the author notes:
"And, as we know, McCain will say anything and do anything to maintain power. If youre looking for his soul, try eBay."
Well, at least the author got one thing correct.
That's the big rhino rampaging around the room that the media ignores. Sullivan left the conservative side only because of that issue. Everything else is balderdash as far as his reasons for joining the lib crowd. That's the only issue that matters to someone like Sullivan. Like abortion for the fem-nazis, the gay rights crowd can only see one issue.
Is this puke still around?
No, Mr. Sullivan, we just hate Socialism and Marxism.
It is nothing personal against our lame president or silly Dem-controlled congress. There is nothing to read into our objections to state-run businesses.
We are capitalists, Mr. Sullivan!
It is “The Party of Government” versus the American people.
“If youre looking for his soul, try eBay.”
And if you’re looking for Andrew’s soul, try Slippery Dick’s Spa & Bathhouse on MLK Jr. Way...
Amazing that gay marriage was never an issue when Clinton was president but as soon as Bush got in office it became issue #1.
Andy and Obozo are on the LOSING side of HISTORY.
Is this guy saying that Obama is not the most radical, extremist anti-American ever to be POTUS? I wonder who it could be then.
“the terror threat doesnt fit with the view of the world he brought with him to the Oval Office.”
You’d think Andrew would agree with this after seeing Barry give Domestic Terrorist Bill Ayers the White House red-carpet treatment shortly after being inaugurated. Obama and Sullivan think it’s vulgar and impolite to question the motives of a guy who sets off bombs in federal buildings.
It'd be a lot easier if we could just shoot all of 'em.
Very disingenous article, but par for the course for that queen, Andy.
True to type, he is in meltdown, and obviously from the paranoia apparent here, what he really meant with “A Palin nomination is perfectly possible” is “A Palin Presidential victory in 2012 is perfectly possible”.
No bidders.
