WASHINGTON Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid apologized on Saturday for saying the race of Barack Obama whom he described as a "light skinned" African-American "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one" would help rather than hurt his eventual presidential bid.
Obama quickly accepted, saying "As far as I am concerned, the book is closed." Reid, facing a tough re-election bid this year, spent the day telephoning civil rights leaders and fellow Democrats in hopes of mitigating the political damage.
The revelations about Reid's 2008 comments were included in the book "Game Change" by Time Magazine's Mark Halperin and New York magazine's John Heilemann. The behind-the-scenes look at the 2008 campaign that elevated Obama to the White House is based on the writers' interviews with more than 200 sources, most of whom were granted anonymity and thus much of the material could not be immediately corroborated.

But what caused the biggest stir Saturday was the Reid statement.
He (Reid) was wowed by Obama's oratorical gifts and believed that the country was ready to embrace a black presidential candidate, especially one such as Obama a 'light-skinned' African American 'with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one,' as he later put it privately," according to the book.
After new excerpts from the book appeared on the Web site of The Atlantic, Reid released a statement expressing regret for "using such a poor choice of words. I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African-Americans for my improper comments."

Reid's office said he had also phoned to apologize to civil rights leaders, including the Rev. Al Sharpton; NAACP Chairman Julian Bond and Leadership Conference on Civil Rights president and CEO Wade Henderson...

Racism? From a Mormon?
Cracker please.
Hey, why apologize? Didn’t the DNC Chairman say it was a positive remark taken in context? So Dims apologize for positive remarks? /sarc
Well, he IS Barack the Magic Negro.
I wonder what Bill Clinton will say about his alleged comment, “A few years ago Obama would’ve been bringing us coffee.”?
‘with no Negro dialect except when he wanted one... what a laugh.. remember when Hillary and Obama knocked each other out trying to talk like a Negro, when I call my senator now about any thing federal I am going to refer to the the President Obama the light skinned negro, okay for Reid the racist to say it.. I think it is appropropiate for me to address him the same way..my senator is DiFi, and she said it was okay...
Liar, Liar, pants, please God, on fire.
This is interesting..you’d think that Obama would have come out IMMEDIATELY and said “I accept the apology, this is much ado about nothing, he is my colleague, my friend and I know he feels shame about his words...we have a lot to do, we can’t get off track.let’s move on.”
But he hasn’t...why?
From the linked article: ...the Idaho gubernatorial candidate issued a formal apology with regards to his exclusion of non-Mormons from his upcoming meetings dealing with the so-called "White Horse Prophecy." Reading from a prepared statement, Rammell said he was wrong to assume that nonmembers of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints wouldn't be interested in hearing his message. "To all those citizens who are not members of the LDS faith, who have expressed a sincere interest in attending my meetings and discussing this prophecy and how we can step forward and save the United States Constitution, I would like to apologize..."
There was no racism in the comments, unless the race hustlers get to define what racism is. It was, however, politically tone-deaf, especially for a lefty like Reid.
Why apologize if he said nothing wrong?
PC/racist focus group on what jokes are acceptable
Reid explained this morning that he would have also apologized to Rev. Jesse Jackson, except I cant understand his dialect.
Actually thats probably the only comment that Dirty, Dinghy, Scummy, Sleezey Harry Reid made that the Authors thought they could get approved for printing.....Harry is a Dirtball and a Pathetic excuse for a Senator of the United States....:-O
>> Reid: ‘with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one,’
What is ‘Negro dialect’? Did Reid use it in a disparaging way? Why is he apologizing for attributing the dialect to Obama?
If Reid could give us an example ‘Negro Dialect’, that would help.
The voice of South Africa speaking English reminds me of the British dialect. The same for India.
At least we now know the criteria the Dems use to select their Presidential candidates. No wonder Sharpton’s candidacy never got off the ground. Too dark, heavy negro dialect.
I think he means "ebonics." Harry just freed us from that political correctness.
We can now call it "negronics."
