White House Cancels Sunday Press Pool Coverage – Game Change?
Mediaite ^ | 1-10-10

Posted on 01/10/2010 2:40:50 PM PST by My Favorite Headache

Late last night, the White House announced that there would be no pool coverage for Sunday, January 10. While the President had no scheduled events this weekend, there was pool coverage yesterday.

It could be a mere coincidence, or it could be that the White House is trying to catch its breath before responding to bombshell revelations in the upcoming book Game Change, excerpts of which poured out all day yesterday. President Obama already issued a statement about Harry Reid’s “negro dialect” quote, but even more explosive passages have emerged since.

The newest passages from the book to hit Marc Ambinder’s blog could be even more explosive than Reid’s, as several of them involve the Clintons. Among these is an anecdote about the late Ted Kennedy taking offense at President Clinton’s assertion that “A few years ago this guy (Barack Obama) would have been getting us coffee.”

While pool reporters are normally just there to observe and report, the only thing stopping them from peppering the President with questions is the icy stare of the press staff.

Also of interest, Jake Tapper reviews President Obama’s responses to other racially incendiary remarks in the past, which have some crying “Hypocrisy!” I would point out that the devil is in the details. In each case, Obama provides a fairly clear rationale. In Reid’s case, it seems he earned a storehouse of goodwill that the others cited did not.

This is actually not about the book precisely, but Schmidt was interviewed for the book, and then afterwards he went on 60 minutes, and Couric etc. He is schizophrenic about palin. On the one hand he says really outrageous things, basically calling her a know-nothing moron but then he’ll say how great she was-

“Steve Schmidt, who was chief strategist for the Republican’s campaign during the 2008 election, said choosing Palin — then a little-known Alaska governor — helped the GOP gain ground against the Democrats and Barack Obama.

“I believe to this day that had she not been picked as a vice presidential candidate, we would have never been ahead, not for one second, not for one minute, not for one hour, not for one day,” Schmidt said during a speech at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service.”

“”I believe, had she not been on the ticket our margin of defeat would’ve been greater than it would’ve been otherwise,” he said.”

I wonder if any of them even care if someone is qualified or not. All they care about is what palms are being greased and who has the power etc.

I agree with you. Clinton’s comments probably had more to do with O’s inexperience than race. But, given how the popcorn has hit the fan, it IS fun to sit back and watch .. and now Clinton is going to MA to campaign for Coakley. Getting better for Brown by the day !!

2 sugars and cream, please !

There is much truth to that and I would not argue with you about corruption on both sides of the aisle. However, I choose to think no matter how much I disagree with Clinton, he would be equipped to make a solid assessment of a persons qualifications.

Let’s face it. The guy was not qualified and I don’t see why Clinton offended anyone by stating the obvious. I don’t view it as racially insensitive. I don’t view the statement in a racial context and we will never know the true context for the quote.

Quite a comment from the so-called "first black President"

As long as blacks were helping Clinton he was a supporter but he wasn't immune to racists actions and comments either. They just never were reported except for the local media.

As everyone is now aware Clinton was a media invention the same as Barack Obama.MO

The media hate Republicans/Conservatives more than they hate the terrorists as they have proven time and again.

That's true and your view of it is certainly valid.

Signator was a very close supposed security person for Obama. There were rumors about just how close he was to Obama.
Mojitojoe, has anyone heard anything about him since the campaign?

Yea, I’ll bet he did and still does. Someone said they thought he might be in DC now and part of the Secret Service. There was a SS guy that with them on the Rome trip that looked like him. The press reached a dead end when they tried to find out and the dead remains.
There was some info posted here many months ago. I believe he used to be married but was divorced but I really can’t recall all the details.
I still think he was one of his butt buddies.

So, he says that Sarah was a stupid idiot, but that they never would have won without her.

I think that’s just his way of saying that McCain was a loser, and that she was too dumb to be properly coached, and the voters were all stupid rednecks, so he, Schmidt, was the only really smart guy in the whole schlemiel.

If only they’d listened to him!

Then there's the new book by Halperin and Heilemann which refers to an ill-concealed extramarital affair between Cindy McCain and a long-time boyfriend.

This is reported today on Tucker Carlson's new web site "The Daily Caller".

If true, I can't say I.....well, never mind.
