January 09, 2010 CIA Director Defends Agency in Suicide Attack
CIA Director Leon Panetta says the Jordanian man who killed seven CIA employees and himself in a bombing in Afghanistan was about to be searched before the explosion.
The bomber was cultivated by the CIA in the fight against Al Qaeda, but apparently was a double agent.
Panetta writes in Sunday's Washington Post that it wasn't a question of trusting a potential intelligence source and that no one ignored the potential danger in dealing with this man.
Panetta, whose article was posted on the newspaper's Web site Saturday, says the suicide bombing is a stark reminder that the U.S. is at war.
Also Saturday, a Pakistani intelligence official warned Americans not to read too much into newly released videos from the Jordanian doctor.
In videos aired on al-Jazeera and a Pakistani TV channel, the doctor appears alongside the new leader of the Pakistani Taliban and urges jihadists to attack U.S. targets to avenge the death the group's previous leader. A CIA missile is believed to have killed Baitullah Mehsud in August.
The doctor, Humam Khalil Abu Mulal al-Balawi, apparently had ties to Al Qaeda, the CIA and Jordanian intelligence. In one of videos, the doctor claims he was offered millions of dollars to spy for the U.S. and Jordan, but gave it up to joint the militants.

Um... shouldn’t you search someone before they get near your
leadership?
No, you condescending ass, it's a stark reminder that you failed to protect your troops during war.
No, you condescending ass, it's a stark reminder that you failed to protect your troops during war.
Love their new tactic over there—pay the enemy to work for the US. Like, that worked out really well here.
The leader of this base was a woman.
Woman in the CIA belong at home, in Langley, doing lowlevel analysis.
JMHO.
Barefoot and pregnant too, I suppose? Just asking, and be careful how you phrase your response. (You are being warned, graciously.)
I dont know, I like to put mustard on my hot dog after I eat it also
A Vision that I do not want to see come to fruition!
It is my contention the Government is not ready for the next terror attack. It is in my rational that it will come within the next 3-4months and will be a struck at the most vulnerable spot(s). It will be a Homicide Bomber(s)denotation in a crowded airport or large shopping mall.
A large sports affair such as Super Bowl has Security so that would not be it. In airports you do not see Security until you get inside and near the jammed up Check-ins. Shopping Malls are a Security joke with their Rent-a-cops.
I am not planning anything but if you are a thinking person you might consider what I said, as a warning.
To all: Stay Alert and Safe. God Bless all!
Our government is out of step. They have no clue who they are dealing with. Cannot play nice with these people. They want us all dead. They are putting our troops in danger by trying it this way.
“Barefoot and pregnant too, I suppose? Just asking, and be careful how you phrase your response. (You are being warned, graciously.)”
So, those are the choices? One either ignores all differences between men and women, or one is some sort of misogynistic oppressor and tormentor of women?
I reject your dichotomy, graciously.
Me, too. But you stated it much more politely.
Never send a woman to do a tough man’s job.
Leon Panetta should be running a used car dealership in some obscure town .... (nothing against used car dealers or obscure towns, really, but is Panetta the best we can do for such a position????)
Is ANYONE in the Obamanation admin. the best we can do for their position?
: )
Coward.
: )
And if there are no tough men available?
Remember two form Navy SEALS were also killed in this incident. SEALs know security like no other entity. Which means management (CIA) over ruled their training.
1. The CIA did not know that the Jordanian Doctor was a radical and that his wife was radical. The doctor's choice of wife indicates to me that turning the doctor would be doubtful.
2. CIA should be searching each and every person coming onto base just because, WE ARE AT WAR.
“Anyone with any iota of commonsense would have searched a Muslim double agent during a time of war. Period.”
Didn’t happen under that woman’s command, though, did it?
“The CIAs gender had nothing to do with the sloppiness of not following through with SOP.”
You have no way in the world of knowing that. Your assertion is based on nothing more substantial than blind faith in the PC doctrine of identical capabilities and temperament.
“I can assure you I would have demanded, most graciously”
That you think graciousness is an issue there casts a beam of light on the problem that you insist does not exist.
“The reason I would insist the POTUS follow SOP is for moral.”
Morale.
“And if you think that I do not have the balls and/or know how to handle the political requirements of demanding that, well you would be wrong.”
Those aren’t even the right questions. And, again, the fact that you bring up the political serves to illuminate the problem.
Women don’t belong in the military, period, with the exception of nurses. Exceptions can be made in emergencies, but they should never become doctrine.
“But there are some who are talented and strong enough to be damn good warriors.”
Doesn’t matter. Even if the worst woman was a hundred times better than the best man, women should still not be in the military.
“In this particular case it seems things were very poorly analyzed and SOP were ignored.”
That sort of thing can happen when men are in charge. It happens with appalling frequency when women are in charge.
“Which means management (CIA) over ruled their training.”
It means a woman employed by and wrongly detailed by the CIA overruled their training.
“The CIA did not know that the Jordanian Doctor was a radical...CIA should be searching each and every person coming onto base”
Of course they didn’t know. At best, the CIA is a pack of shiny-loafered, candy-assed incompetents. There are far too many leftards and blame-America-firsters among them. They shouldn’t be trusted with anything that could get a military man killed.
“You have no way in the world of knowing that. Your assertion is based on nothing more substantial than blind faith in the PC doctrine of identical capabilities and temperament.”
What? You are being illogical. To the best of my knowledge, sloppiness is not a gender oriented trait. Who ever made the decision not to search the double agent was a fool. If you think only women screw up, I am disappointed in your thought process.
