Former GOP Rep. Susan Molinari is looking at running against Democratic U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand this year.
Ms. Molinari, 52, who left Congress in 1997 and currently lives in Virginia, said that given the health care debate and the upcoming trials of accused 9/11 terrorists here, "it's an important time to have aggressive leadership in the Senate" in the tradition of Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Alfonse D'Amato and Charles Schumer.
Ms. Molinari said she is being urged to run by her father, former Congressman and Borough President Guy Molinari, and by former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, both of whom called her yesterday.
"This is very early in a conversation I'm having with myself," said Ms. Molinari, who is a senior principal at the Bracewell & Giuliani law firm, where she does government affairs work and lobbying.
Ms. Molinari, a former City Council Minority Leader, said she would decide "sooner rather than later" whether she would make the run.

Names keep coming forward, dropping out, and coming forward. I don’t know what to think about this race.
That being said, we could do worse than Susan Molinari. Word is that she realizes that resigning from Congress was a mistake.
She’s a RINO, isn’t she? Another dud. Keep away. I’d rather know emphatically who the enemies of conservatives are (died in the wool democrats or liberal republicans) vs. a wolf in sheep’s clothing “moderate”, i.e., the duplicitous and deceptive ones. They’re the worst.
She’s a wimp. Find a Conservative with guts, spine, and fortitude to fight for freedom.
I would rather see Peter King run.
How come Giuliani doesn’t run? Is the U.S. Senate beneath him now?
He ducked Hillary. He ducked out of the 2008 GOP race. Yet he still postures as if he should be considered for 2012. Hey, Mayor. How about winning an election again before running for the top job? While we don’t agree on social issues, I know Giuliani would be tough and direct on items like crime, spending and taxes. Our Senate needs people like that too.
As Hillary Clinton proved, anyone is a New Yorker.
Well there’s two seats to run for in NY. So lets get two good people. Why all the talk of only Gillebrand’s seat. Schumer is the one pulling all the puppet strings in the senate. Why aren’t Giuliani, Pataki, King, or somebody else talking about running for Schumer’s seat. Of all people, he should not be running unopposed.
Even though Molinari would be a good candidate and probably the best you could get that's willing to run.
It's fundamentally wrong that someone who hasn't lived in the state for 10+ years can be eligible.
Of course as you say everyone is a New Yorker based on new Yorks eligibility laws.
What if I don't want to be a New Yorker?
The next thing that will happen is New York will think it can tax me.
Can you imagine D'Amato and Schumer as the NY delegation?

She wants to run in the tradition of Daniel Patrick Moynihan and Chuckie Schumer? Two Democrats, one of them completely corrupt and worthless and the other who had good principles but sold out to LBJ?
Maybe it’s just meaningless words, but it sounds a bit ominous to me.
Kirsten Gillibrand with unidentified braying horses arse
Good for her. I’ve always liked Susan.
She used to be kinda hot.
Gillebrand has alot of ‘splaining to do about her vote to continue government ACORN funding. The vote was 83-7.
She’s comparable to King, neither are strong conservatives. But she’s very old news.
Her family may be uh “made” for all I know.
I see she is still married to Bill Paxon, They were one of the those “power couples” till they both quit congress.
I’ve read rumors about him and Brit Hume’s now dead son.
You are the second person I’ve seen mention D’Amato. It was pointed out he has a new wife and a little kid.
I wish he would have run in 2000 against the Hill.
Paxon’s “coup” attempt against Newt might have been a good idea though.
On the issues, the big difference between King and Molinari is that King’s pro-life and Molinari’s pro-abortion. But Molinari’s personality and public image probably make her a stronger Senate candudate than King.
Honestly, I’d rather have Pataki run.
Thanks, I missed this.
