Randeep Mann, an Arkansas doctor accused of attempting to blow up the state medical board chairman, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Wednesday. Dr. Mann is charged with using a weapon of mass destruction in the February 2009 explosion that took the eye of Dr. Trent Pierce.
According to prosecutors, Dr. Mann was acting in retaliation after Dr. Pierce had disciplined Mann for over prescribing narcotics. Ten patients of Dr. Mann had died due to prescriptions written by the pain specialist, according allegations by the state medical board. An additional seven reportedly suffered overdoses.
Dr. Mann is accused of planting a homemade bomb in the path of Dr. Pierce, concealed in a stray tire. When Dr. Pierce attempted to remove the tire from the roadway, the explosive device went off, severely burning Dr. Pierce and removing his left eye.
