Sen. Christopher J. Dodd (Conn.), a leading Democrat whose political star fell along with the nation's economy, is expected to announce Wednesday that he has decided against running for reelection this November, according to sources briefed on the decision. Dodd, in his fifth term, chairs the Senate Banking Committee. His retirement would be the second such announcement by a Senate Democrat in 24 hours; North Dakota's Byron Dorgan said Tuesday that he would not run this fall.

Cowards. Fall on their sword to vote against the will of the people for Obama then refuse to allow the people to kick their butts this Nov.

Can’t say I’m happy about the retirements. Now they feel no need to worry about those voes. I realize they were voing against the people either way, bu the ones running for re-election were at least delaying the process since they were nervous.

Good, hope they all go! Is this a plot to bring in others more electable so that the voters will forget by November that he ever existed? Five terms he’s been in, good riddance, I hope the voters don’t forget!

Obama raises money for a vulnerable Dodd
By Sam Youngman - 10/23/09 09:55 PM ET

President Barack Obama on Friday came to the aid of embattled Sen. Christopher Dodd (D-Conn.) not long after a House committee made it clear that Dodd’s ethical problems are not behind him.

Even though Dodd was largely exonerated by a Senate ethics investigation into any “sweetheart” deals he might have made with Countrywide Financial, the House ethics committee voted Friday to issue subpoenas to continue to the investigation.

That news came Friday afternoon as Dodd was joined in Connecticut by the president to tour a small business before Obama raised roughly $1 million for the senator and onetime presidential candidate.

Biden Praises Chris Dodd (”the sharpest tool in the kit”)
Hartford Courant ^ | October 6, 2009 | DANIELA ALTIMARI

FAIRFIELD — - Standing in a commuter parking lot just off the Merritt Parkway Monday, Vice President Joe Biden spoke of the impact that stimulus spending is having on communities across the state.

It wasn't a partisan rally — campaign signs were strictly forbidden, and since the subject was policy, not politics, Biden’s appearance wasn't funded by the candidates — but the vice president nevertheless found a few moments to praise two of of the state's Democrats in Washington.

Course I could be wrong (/snix), but this is probably what led to Dim Dodd's "decision" to quit.

Last July, Dodd proposed an amendment reducing aviation security appropriations by $4.5M in favor of firefighter grants (a move that enriched one of Dodd's financial backers). The federal money Dodd eliminated was specifically intended "for screening operations and for explosives detection systems."

AT THE TIME I POSTED THAT ITEM IN DEC 2009, MY ADVICE TO DODD WAS: Dodd should pack his bags and leave now, before he's tarred and feathered and run out of DC on a rail.

“Stewardesses beware.”

That was Chuck Schumer who called the stewardess a b***, I haven’t heard of Dodd doing anything with a stewardess...

I think the GOP was going to take this seat if they ran against Dodd. Now I don’t know what is going to happen.

You're right. Without Dodd, it makes it hard. This is a very liberal state.

Assuming this report is accurate, one reason why he won't seek reelection may have to do with the following: What the Dems know that we don't: Universal Voter Registration , Whoever runs will need at least some name recognition given that person will have less than 10 months to campaign.

I wouldn't celebrate this one. If Ned Lamant gets in the race he will probably win this. Dodd was a badly damaged candidate.
