President Barack Obama on Tuesday reaffirmed his intention to close the prison facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba even though he also acknowledged it would need to remain open for the time being because of his administration's decision to suspend the transfer of Yemeni nationals to their homeland following the Christmas Day airline bomb plot.
"In fact, that was an explicit rationale for the formation of al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula."

We can play this idiotic game that President Obama tried to lay day. Lets say for instance it is true that the terrorist opened shop in Yemen in response to GITMO. Well we opened GITMO in response to 9/11, USS COLE (Yemen), Kenya and Tanzania, World Trade Center Attack 1993.
I think the terrorist moved to Yemeen because they are getting whimped in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and that releasing the USS COLE bomber et al back to Yemen only strengthened AQs position.

Here Mr. Pres—ent presents one on a tee-ball platter. El Quada was in Yemen at the time of the USS Cole attack, years prior to 9-11, much less Gitmo. We’re talking basic knowledge required to hold the job. FBI was in Yemen to track them down for years thereafter. If I know, why doesn’t he???
The man is either utterly incompetent and clueless, or thinks we are, or both. Time for all good men to come to come to the aid of their country.
Clinton proved beyond all reasonable doubt that terrorism/terrorists can not be isolated and handled simply as a law enforcement problem and a bank robber or a murderer.
It is bigger. It is an intelligence and a military problem as it it global, worldwide. It is not confined to a single moment, event or localized crime scene. It has technical and global applications that local law enforcement methods can not handle. Local law enforcement was never designed to fight a war.
Global, across borders, they have no reach. Technological in that there needs to be uses of advanced technology that local law enforcement do not have the expertise, the funds or the assets to control. Plus, they are hampered by legal safeguards in place for domestic criminals.
The first two (global, technology) can be overcome by joint efforts of local and national and international cooperation. The third (legal constraints) can not. However the political atmosphere and politicians are trying there darnedest to subvert and mitigate them in favor of the terrorist.
Also, law enforcement is chartered by who they are and what they do. The majority are charged with protecting local residents and property, they are basically public service organizations. No global implications in their chartered domains.
The purpose of terrorism, after all, is to terrorize to coerce by intimidation or fear and as such it is being used to undermine the sovereignty of the United States of America. Frankly, Al Qaeda and militant Islamic groups have declared war on the United States. We can either acknowledge that or put our heads in the sand.
Seems our government, under Clinton and Obama, has chosen the latter.
