Sounded like they were setting up patsies. Just like terrorists may do one day.

Very worrisome when you think about it. That they would put stuff in your luggage without you knowing.

After 9/11 when we could no longer lock out luggage, there were reports of items being stolen somewhere in transit. And if you just don't take any luggage, figuring to buy what you need at your destination, then you're a person of interest for not having any. I guess a mostly-empty suitcase is the answer.

This is one of the most frightening scenarios that any one of the airline traveling public could face. It is extremely easy to imagine one layer of law enforcement reacting in a lethal manner when confronting a confused, scared, or angry but perfectly law abiding citizen that has been damned by what was surreptitiously put in his/her luggage.
I hope to God this isn't permitted in the USA and if it is, that it be stopped immediately.

>>surreptitiously
Does that mean without the passenger’s knowledge?
If the passenger knew about it why didn’t he let somebody know that he still had the test stuff in his bag before leaving the security area?
If he didn’t know about it...how the Freak is that legal?
We’re all going to stop flying soon if the idiots “in charge” don’t step up. <<
Carry on luggage only is the solution... Oh they hate that too...

"Yes, the authorities placed the stuff in the luggage as a test of the system.............." And, then they arrest the unwitting passenger??? How twisted is that?

Instead of treating everybody like a criminal, including senators, congressmen and most ludicrously... The pilots... Imagine the sheer stupidity of searching pilots for bombs... These dumb Ass TSA types need to quit letting Muslims into the country... Real simple... If they are here, then kick them out. Leave everybody else pretty much alone. Myself, I would rather drive unless it’s over a 12 hour drive... I used to use a 6 hour rule but all the security, the hassle, the time changed the 6 hour to a 12 hour. I’m not alone so it has to affect the passenger miles flown equation for airline profitability. But this is such a silly country, used to be something I was proud of. But all great countries die when the citizens no longer feel it’s worth saving.

The more hassle there is in flying (and more 3-10 hour delays in flights), the easier it is to commit to driving anywhere within a 12 hour drive.

12 hour rule can even be expanded for a large enough group and a long enough stay (like 3 people going somewhere for the better part of a week, even a 24 hour drive is managable and the creature comforts can be brought on the trip).

Carry on luggage only is the solution... Oh they hate that too... The stewardesses have been goading the airlines into limiting and prohibiting carry ons for decades now.
And in the wake of the Detroit bomb plot, we are being told that access and quantity of carry ons may be further reduced.
Meanwhile the Islamic political theocracy continues to spread around the globe.
