HONOLULU -- President Barack Obama ended a Hawaiian vacation to return Monday to the Washington he never really escaped.
Obama and his family boarded Air Force One on Sunday evening for an overnight flight, capping off an 11-day trip that would be remembered more for an al-Qaida affiliate's botched attempt to bring down a Christmas Day flight about to land in Detroit from Amsterdam rather than the hours spent on golf courses or at luaus. The failed terror attack refocused the president's trip from R&R on the island of Oahu to a river of memos from homeland security aides.

It reminds me of a man my step-father worked with. It was impossible for my mother or step-father to mention this friend without remarking how ugly his wife was. They would look at each other and then laugh about ugly wife.
None of us could believe they could be so mean and talk about her like that.
This went on for several months. They would snicker and laugh, we would express outrage.

Just imagine if Dubya, Laura and the twins (or any Republican president) had taken an ultra-expensive 11-day Hawaiian holiday like this in the middle of a recession with 10% unemployment. Just imagine that.
And the Obamas have taken how many vacations and "date nights/weekends" since January 20, 2009???

This article makes me so mad on so many different levels. For a year and a half, we could only take quick weekend, a couple of long-weekend getaways, and always had my laptop with me to spend at least part of the time working, early in the am, late in the pm, even during the day when we should have been out touring.
I’m not complaining, that’s just the way it was during that cycle. It’s just that sooo many of us do that, for less pay, and obviously we’re not as important as the office of the presidency.
Instead we have this whiny sniveling POS “president,” and a whiny, enabling, covering-up press.
I sure don’t remember all these cover-up articles for Pres Bush -— all they did (and still do, I saw a liberal post at the local newspaper forum how Bush took 345 days vacation???) — is sit there with their idiotic counters and count every second that Pres Bush was allegedly on vacation.
We missed vacation last year because we had bills to pay...in fact it's been two years. (College tuitions are killers!)
I am not complaining , but this AP tripe is unbelievable!!!
Who would turn down 10 days in Hawaii-even if you had to be interrupted a few times? Not to mention, doing it on someone else's dime with private cars, jets and zoos!
btw--that dress is really ugly and probably cost more than the average American makes in a week!

I sure don’t remember the MSM EVER expressing sadness that President Bush had any holiday interrupted by any National Security issue. They just always complained that he caused whatever problem came up. Come to think of it, they still do!

The best thing the Obamas have going for them is their two girls ~ they are adorable.
