WELCOME TO 2010! Dear Saddleback Family,
You won't want to miss this weekend at Saddleback! It will be history-making and also the first service of our Decade of Destiny. I can't wait to share with you what happened this week.
It speaks volumes about YOU, the depth of commitment in this fellowship, and where God is taking us in 2010 - our 30th Anniversary year. I'm simply calling this week's message "The Miracle".
In spite of a media culture that thrives on bad news and is typically clueless about how churches actually work, and in spite of hatefulness and insults by some who immediately jumped to wrong conclusion - the church of God marches on, and once again God surprises all of us! I am humbled to have been your pastor for 30 years. See you this weekend.
Pastor Rick
BLESSED BE THE NAME OF THE LORD AND ALL THOSE WHO TRULY LOVE HIM AND SEEK TO DO HIS WILL.
I don’t approve of all Rick does and says. I do believe he fits in the above category.
I assume you wore your hazmat suit in posting this thread.
Oh but you have to take a survey to find out what people want to hear in your church, you must be doing something wrong! Just keep on despite the fact that mature solid Christians are leaving. Rick says that some people are going to have to die or leave. And Chuck Mcalister and Dan Southerland say those people are just leaders from hell anyway. You want the new immature and/or false converts to come in so you can shape them the way you want them, to be yes-men for the pastor and not preach a gospel that’s too offensive for the natural man to hear. After all if you don’t get them in the church they’ll never hear the gospel right? because we sure don’t want to teach our church members how to actually explain to the people they come in contact with in their lives DURING THE WEEK the wrath of God, sin, hell, the blood atonement, and the death to self that comes from surrendering one’s life to Christ’s Lordship.
/sarcasm
Mine is in the apostasy section of my library, with many notes written in the margins. Purpose Driven Church is just as bad if not worse.
Define “freely” — Rick has already conditioned them to jump when he says jump, because you have to ‘do’ all these things he’s made up to really please God.
The woman offered the guy drugs! Sheesh.
We never said they weren’t doing what they want. In fact when they listen to charlatans they are doing exactly what they want too. It’s still stupid.
As I recall I read many articles about the Purpose Driven hostage incident. And yes, in most of them the drugs were left out. The girl herself mentioned it in interviews I saw.
No one is criticizing Ashley Smith for what she did, we are criticizing the people who are giving credence to PDL for saving Ashley Smith’s life. Pay attention.
Get your head out of your rear and see the posts that I was replying to.
Yeah, touch not mine anointed, that means the person has to actually BE the anointed, and the word for TOUCH in hebrew, in that context, means “lay hands on to do harm to” —
Everyone uses that verse out of context just like “judge not lest ye be judged” to avoid Biblical criticism. Paul rebuked Peter to his face, even though peter was ‘anointed’ with the Holy Spirit too. And Paul was RIGHT in correcting Peter, and peter accepted the correction even though it was done in front of everyone else (gasp! How mean spirited and humiliating!). Rick doesn’t accept doctrinal or behavioral correction in any form, public, private, written, or spoken.
Obviously you have not been following Rick's antics over the last ten or so years. He did not endorse any candidate, but that is irrelevant. Some of the things he has done and said in the name of Christ are traitorous.
900 Foot Jesus...
I'll go out on a limb and guess that you have never been kidnapped, tied up and held by a man on a 17 hour killing spree, and having to handle the situation in a way in which you live, and then doing it so well that you not only live, but you end the entire spree and lead the man to give up.
Monday morning quarterbacking is pretty arrogant of you.
If they had that kind of sense, they wouldn’t be members of his congregation. Or is it Corporation?
I'm glad to see that you live up to that Biblical admonition too. BTW if you read that in context you will see that it says later "cast not your pearls before swine nor give what is holy to dogs."
Exactly how do you discern who is a swine and a dog? Judging?
In fact the entirety of Scripture puts GREAT emphasis on judging righteously, on discerning truth from error ("truth from almost true") and if you neglect that you may as well just throw away your Bible.
Gotta keep everyone in latte's and donuts for all those umpty hundred different venues they have their services in.
” I don’t know too much about Rick”
That is obvious.
God isn’t short on cash. But his church tends to have trouble spending their time, money, and energy on the things God values.
Sometimes doing it the world’s way creates a great windfall for them, but it’s illusory. The real backbone of the Body of Christ is the small churches that just stay faithful to message and wise with their money on a day to day basis, without trying to do things to draw the attention of unbelievers.
are you by chance a Free Methodist?
