Fox, Time Warner: A Deal Is Done ShareThis EMAIL PRINT vote nowBuzz up! By Josef Adalian Published: January 01, 2010

Peace is at hand in the standoff between Time Warner Cable and Fox, with both sides announcing a new carriage deal after marathon negotiations that streched into the New Year.

No word yet on how close Time Warner came to meeting Fox's $1 per subscriber request.

Here's the release just issued by both companies:

The Fox Networks Group and Time Warner Cable announced today that they have agreed in principle to a comprehensive distribution agreement to provide more than 13 million households with programming from Fox Television Stations, Fox Broadcasting (FOX), Fox Cable Networks and Fox’s regional sports networks. The deal also includes carriage agreements for Bright House Networks’ 2 million additional subscribers.

"We're pleased that, after months of negotiations, we were able to reach a fair agreement with Time Warner Cable -- one that recognizes the value of our programming,” said Chase Carey, Deputy Chairman, President and COO, News Corporation.

“We’re happy to have reached a reasonable deal with no disruption in programming for our customers,” said Glenn Britt, Chairman, President and CEO, Time Warner Cable.

Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Does Ted Turner still own lots of Time Warner?

I don’t care. I’m just glad I don’t have to mess with changing to dish... cause, hey, Cowboys and Jack.

First thing I did when I turned on the TV this morning was to check the Fox high-def channel to see if it was there. When I saw it was business-as-usual, I knew Time Warner must have either met Fox’s demands or put forth a really good counteroffer.

Now I’ll have to check my bills over the next few months and see if there are any price increases that TWC will try to pass on to the customers.

Not a cent. After he was forced out as a VP, he gradually sold off all the shares he owned from the sale of Turner Broadcasting to Time Warner.

He was too prone to crazy talk which made the suits uncomfortable. They got rid of him when they had the chance so Ted sold all his shares which is one reason the stock proce stayed so low for so long.

It should also be noted that Time Warner, Inc. no longer owns Time Warner Cable. Time Warner Cable is a stand-alone company on the NYSE. I think Time Warner does own stock in TWC but not controlling interest.

You and me both.

Me too. I was ready to get CaptiveWorks 400HD so I can be able to watch almost anything from the sky even the Predator unencrypted downlink, LOL.

Had TWC cut off Fox it would have backfired.

Just glad a deal is done. I hate TWC but my Mom did not want to switch unless it was absolutely necessary. I will get a digital box for my room so that I can have the three channels that I lost, back, plus when I get my new HD TV, I will get an HD DVR so that I can pause live TV. Maybe now with all this crap that went on, Time Warner will have some promotions.

Hey, down here in Texas we only have one cable operator. (plus sucky satellite).

Our cable + internet costs us $148/month. So what’s another buck to these ripoff con artists!

Yep, but I still hate Time Warner Cable..they are horribly overpriced and we don’t get crap in return, but at least I will be able to enjoy the Laker game tonight :-)
