What exactly were her qualifications for that office again? As near as I can tell, the only thing she’s ever done that is even remotely related to “homeland security” is to govern a border state while consistently standing in the way of any attempt to protect the border. It’s hard to call this a “stumble” when she never belonged in that post to begin with.

Her appointment just highlights the farce that is the Department of Homeland Security. It is an expensive waste of resources which has done nothing to accomplish its stated objectives and instead serves as just another vehicle for political cronyism - and, not to mention, a serious danger to American liberty.

It probably wouldn’t be a good idea politically right now, but the GOP ought to at least look into its abolition as a potential plank in its platform. It’s easy to see how that position could be spun into “Republicans don’t care about protecting America”, but, on the other hand, I can’t imagine the Department is all that popular with anyone right now.
