Our Year of Obama
national review ^ | 12/30/09 | Victor Davis Hanson

Posted on 12/31/2009 6:42:01 AM PST by bestintxas

America is at a day of reckoning that it never quite expected to face.

Not long ago, tired of eight years of Republican rule, terrified by the September 2008 financial panic, unimpressed by the campaign of John McCain, and mesmerized by the hope-and-change elixirs and landmark candidacy of Barack Obama, the American people voted for change.

But change of what sort?

I think voters wanted an end to the Bush deficits. Big government and Wall Street insiders sickened them. They were tired of the expense of two wars. By 2006, the scandals of the Republican Congress had turned them off. But mostly voters just wanted an end to the shrill politics that had torn the country in two.

Barack Obama saw all that. So he gave the crowds what they wanted: promises of vetoes of wasteful spending, no more lobbyists, an honest Congress for once, financial sobriety, and no more red-state/blue-state, at-your-throat politics. For millions of believers, Obama was to be our version of Truman or Eisenhower — centrist competence, but spiced up with 21st-century postracial pizzazz.

The people took Obama at his word, and here we are a year later with the largest drop in popularity of a first-year president in poll-taking history. A clear majority of the country is now opposed to almost all of the Obama program — more stimuli, bailouts, deficits, and takeovers; statist health care; cap-and-trade; and therapeutic-apology/reset-button diplomacy abroad.

Decidingly so evil is he, we need to address this abomination with the greatest rejection this country has ever seen of those enslaving us.

...”landmark candidacy of Barack Obama”...

Please, VDH, stop with the Bravo Sierra. Why was Barack Obama a “landmark” candidate? Because he has 50% more melanin in his skin than any other to that time? This is a ridiculous theme.

Obama’s candidacy was “landmark” because he is the most inexperienced, left-wing candidate in history, with the most baggage coming into office in terms of his associations, his votes, and his views.

Our Year of Obama

The Year of Living Changerously! Here’s a musical tribute to Team Obama:

IMMORAL, INCOMPETENT, NOT VERY WISE
Tune: "Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise"

Immoral, incompetent,
Not very wise;
This year of Obama meant
Murphy applies.
The change they believed in
Since Bo was a pup
Got shortchanged and even
Got all wee-wee'd up.

The bailouts, the skeptic
Said, won't stimulate;
The failure was epic--
A ten is worth eight.
The shovel is ready
To dig a new hole;
The trend line is steady--
It's Dear Leader's poll.

Insurance guy smirking,
But you might be jailed;
The system is working,
The underwear failed.
Incompetence conquers,
It's running amok;
But don't tell the Congress--
On stupid they're stuck.

On Holder, on Nappy,
On Crusty and Joe!
Is anyone happy
With Barry's Team O?
Let's all call a summit
And cry in our beer;
The worst thing about it--
It's just the first year!

here we are a year later with the largest drop in popularity of a first-year president in poll-taking history.

BAD NEWS FOR BARACK
Tune: "Limbo Rock" Original MIDI

Every lib'ral boy and girl
All the folks in Limbaugh World
Both sides bashing on Barack
All find something they can mock
Track his numbers, track his polls
Track the unemployment rolls
All the pollsters on the block
Say it's bad news for Barack

He'll go lower now
He'll go lower now
How low can he go

First he spread the wealth around
Then he bowed down to the ground
Spend a trillion, make it three
Spend it like it grows on trees
Track his numbers, track his polls
Track the unemployment rolls
All the pollsters on the block
Say it's bad news for Barack

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Though he started out on top
Every time the numbers drop
There's a ratings trend that shows
He will fall to record lows
Track his numbers, track his polls
Track the unemployment rolls
All the pollsters on the block
Say it's bad news for Barack

Don't move that phone book far
He needs a polling czar
How low can he go

They also forgot about domestic energy policy--thanks, I'm convinced, to world-wide market manipulation of oil prices.

Bush deficits WERE ended, to be sure, only to be replaced by even GREATER deficits put in place by the nascent obama regime. Not only for the short term, but stretching out as far as imagination can roam.

Several of the Russian “think tanks” have come up with the high probability that the US military will have to be brought home to contend with the coming civil war in the US, which shall see the country break up into as many as six republics.

At this point, I almost favor that eventual resolution. Declare a “red” country, and make a separate “blue” country (or countries, as these will be isolated and widely separated little islands).

The “red” country is nearly contiguous, and if offered to the people on a vote based on existing Congressional districts, a plebicite based on a choice of two: Restoration of an original interpretation of the Constitution and Declaration of Independence; or the total discarding of the existing founding documents and a vote to live under whatever set of cockamamie rules they choose, with this provision, that the “red country” may set up and ENFORCE its immigration policies.

I think Obama wants out of being POTUS. Of course, he is incompetent; but really take a look at him and what his people push off on us. He’s tired; he needs rest; blah; blah; blah. He is bored out of his gourd. He doesn’t work; he ignores everything and he is always doing something other that acting as POTUS. He also acts as if being called upon to act in the capacity as POTUS is a big bother.

These are classic signs. Also, all of the sudden there are signs of Hillary ramping up her campaign by trying to imply it will be her and Palin.(Never ever elect another Clinton to any office)

It’s sad because Clinton and Clinton should both be behind bars.

The final irony is that should Obama and his revolutionaries prevail in their remaking of America, their own progeny will not enjoy the opportunity and affluence that they so cavalierly take to be their birthright, which was bequeathed to them by less liberal others.

Hansen is wrong here. Modern American politics is rife with brand-name dynasties, so Obama's daughters will have rank and priviledge bestowed upon them, even if the private sector is declining.

Obama’s idea of change you can believe in:

Turn the DemocRAT Party from the party of “Tax and Spend” to the party of “Spend and Tax”.

For me that was the “article of the year” ... Hansen hit every point, gave the facts and clearly explained a year most of us are still trying to understand. EXCELLENT READ ... don’t miss it.

I think voters wanted an end to the Bush deficits. Big government and Wall Street insiders sickened them.

And therefore they voted for the most left-wing candidate to run for president in this nation's history? This lets Republicans off the hook for years of fiscal irresponsibility, pork and corruption when they held both Congress and the WH. IN 2008, conservative voters were disgusted and stayed home, while independents were disgusted and voted Democrat.

The Republicans are the lesser of two evils, but just barely. If the GOP retakes control of the House in 2010, conservative voters need to do a much better job of making sure they stay in line on spending and government programs and call them on their BS when they don't.
