Spy agencies failed to collate clues before flight (They had the threat but failed to act)

The National Security Agency four months ago intercepted conversations among leaders of Al Qaeda in Yemen discussing a plot to use a Nigerian man for a coming terrorist attack, but American spy agencies later failed to combine the intercepts with other information that might have disrupted last week’s attempted airline bombing.

The electronic intercepts were translated and disseminated across classified computer networks, government officials said on Wednesday, but analysts at the National Counterterrorism Center in Washington did not synthesize the eavesdropping intelligence with information gathered in November when the father of the would-be bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, visited the United States Embassy in Nigeria to express concerns about his son’s radicalization.

The father, a wealthy businessman named Alhaji Umaru Mutallab, had urgently sought help from American and Nigerian security officials when cellphone text messages from his son revealed that he was in Yemen and had become a fervent radical.

Obama LIHOP/MIHOP? Just getting in before the media clammers for an investigation of the inside job/conspiracy theory like they did for 9/11. Where are the Truthers now? (Crickets)

Liberals do not see terrorism as a threat, hence, the installed staff in this administration does not act on intelligence.

MSNBC and a handful of other leftists see the threat of terrorism, not to the citizens of this country, but to their agenda. A successful attack with foreknowledge could destroy Obama.

As we know with liberals, anything that stands in the way of their agenda must be destroyed.

So, I predict they will get more serious about terrorism.

The earlier story was that the agencies failed to share—the systemic failure description. This later story looks like an agency is trying to point the finger at another agency for failing to treat the shared data repsonsibly.

Holder and Napolitano announced earlier this month a five-year plan for implementation of a suspicious activity reporting network.

“I predict they will get more serious about terrorism.”

Nah, I predict they will get more serious about looking like they are serious about terrorism ..... aka “extremism”

In their heart of hearts they believe the wicked US deserves to be attacked, so it is hard for them to condemn our attackers with any passion. What they do, they do for poll numbers and votes, not for outrage and resolution and duty to the Republic

Let’s take an unbiased look at the situation:

A single muslim male, flying on one way ticket, paid with cash, no passport, known to be a radical by US security agencies, reported by his own father as a radical Islamist.

What could possibly go wrong?

Our politicians and bureaucrats cannot be expected to see potential terrorism when they spend all their time with their heads up their nether regions.

Don't get too excited. This is a phenomenon I have often noted around holidays. The big shots all go on extended vacations and leave the subordinates in charge of making decisions. Said subordinates are usually making coffee and doing gofer stuff and aren't properly acquainted with how the news is to be manufactured and “processed”, what spin is to be put on stories. They make mistakes and wind up telling the truth. Suppressing the truth is a talent that must developed over years of lying, misstating, ignoring reality, etc.

In a few days the big shots will be returning to their offices and regular programming will be resumed. The underlings that made the mistake of telling the truth will be disciplined, perhaps even terminated.

MARK MAZZETTI and ERIC LIPTON/ny times

Should we watch to see if these two are fired from the NY Times?

Or are you talking about the 2nd stringers at MSNBC that let the NY Times story be repeated there?
