Rasmussen: Obamacare Disapproval at New High (More than 2:1 among independent likely voters)
Weekly Standard ^ | December 30, 2009 | Jeffrey H. Anderson

Posted on 12/31/2009 2:44:59 AM PST by Zakeet

Rasmussen's health-care polling results since Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid orchestrated the Christmas Eve vote are full of undeniably bad news for Democrats. In roughly ascending order of bad news (if one is a Democrat)...

Likely voters oppose Obamacare by more than the (18-point) margin by which Ronald Reagan beat Walter Mondale: 58 percent to 39 percent.

There are far more likely voters who "strongly" oppose Obamacare (46 percent) than there are likely voters who support it even "somewhat" (39 percent).

Only 24 percent of likely voters think that the quality of health care would get better under Obamacare, while 54 percent think it would get worse -- a gap of 30 percent.

Only 13 percent of likely voters think that the cost of health would go down under Obamacare, while 63 percent think it would rise -- a gap of 50 percent.

Seniors oppose Obamacare by more than 2 to 1: 63 percent to 31 percent.

And the worst news of all for Democrats...

Independents oppose Obamacare by the head-turning tally of 66 percent to 28 percent.

Democrats don’t care, I believe that they are on a full blown suicide mission to get this passed, regardless of the consequences to the party in 2010, that fact alone should scare the living hell out of people.

For what is in this thing, that the public overwhelmingly hates, would cause a Democrat to knowing cast a political career ending yes vote.

It just don’t make much rational sense at all

Mark Steyn probably said it best in one of his columns and his recent subbing for El Rushbo: that the dems know from the Euroweenie example that once government has life-and-death power over us they will hold all the cards and there will be no going back. If government is all powerful then the Party of Government will be in the driver’s seat at least 95% of the time from then on.

The dems know they will suffer short-term electoral pain for this but they expect the pubbies to blow their comeback as usual and soon accept their permanent minority status in perpetuity.

That’s what Steyn says and I agree. I add that all the dem congresscritters were almost certainly given elaborate promises from Obama, the dem powerplayers and the liberal moneybags donors that they will be set up for life as soon as they are booted by the voters next year. Cushy jobs in the 110 new healthcare bureaucracies and the Soros organizations as well as board positions in all the newly government-acquired businesses.

They’ll all be well taken care of.

According to Rasmussen, pubs have slipped to +5 on the generic ballot over the last week, but they’re up a total of +12 over a year ago when they were -7 behind the rats. The pubs lost a point in the last week while rats gained 2, so the pubs slipped from +8 to +5. But it’s only one week. The trend is still okay, but, imo, the pubs should be much higher considering how poorly the so-called “blue dogs” did on deathcare. But the fact that the pubs can’t get it together and capitalize on how wrong the rats are on deathcare, the economy, unemployment and the deficit is rather stunning but no surprise - pubs are famous for snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. They need to start by becoming vertebrates.

Yeppers. Somehow the references seem to be particularly relevant to the current administration.

Take no comfort in these numbers. He is going to push this legislation thru no matter how much harm it does to America.

Rats follow polls just like all politicians. They undoubtedly know they’ll take a hit in November over this, among other things. They also know they are playing cards with a marked deck and the ace up their sleeves goes by one name: amnesty.

0bama has probably promised many of those that will go down in November jobs in his regime. Janet Incompetano is proof that qualifications and competency are not required, and besides, they can always become a czar.

I think, in the grand scheme of things, the democrats believe that they will indeed lose seats, but not enough to change their majority.

State level political entities are the only way to set this ship right side up again.

Basically, the “general government” needs to be dissolved for a period of time, say 6 months, and a new one formed under the original Constitution with specific safeguards against judicial “interpretation” and overstepping of the severe restrictions on jurisdictional power of the federal gov’t.

It stems from a basic error/lie about human nature.

They believe in evolution and the idea that man is not “fallen”, but is “basically good” and perfectible.

If man is perfectible, it is logical that some are “more perfect” than others. Those people, logically again, have the right and the duty to make the societal decisions for those who are “less evolved” or “less perfected”.
