Congressional Candidate Schiffer Seeks Repeal on Carbon Dioxide Law
THE VOICE Magazine ^ | December 30, 2009 | Jennifer LeClaire

Posted on 12/30/2009 5:33:34 AM PST by Moseley

Paul Schiffer, Republican candidate for Congress in Ohio's 16th Congressional District, has already written legislation to repeal last Monday's decision by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency calling carbon dioxide a "pollutant." Paul Schiffer pledged to introduce and fight for this repeal in January 2011 after being elected in November 2010.

"All life on earth depends on carbon dioxide. Plants breathe carbon dioxide as the lifeblood of plant growth. Animals cannot exist without plants for food. Carbon dioxide is a harmless, colorless, odorless part of the air that nourishes plants,” Schiffer said. “The EPA's decision makes as much sense as calling dihydrogen monoxide a pollutant."

Schiffer's legislation would leave in place all regulation of genuine pollution but exclude carbon dioxide from the definition of a pollutant in all Federal laws. This would strip the EPA of authority to regulate the carbon dioxide which plants breathe. It would also over-turn the April 2007 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court in Massachusetts v. EPA. Because the Supreme Court was only interpreting environmental laws, Schiffer's Bill will overturn that decision.

Paul Schiffer, a former Marine, has been a conservative figure for 15 years as a radio talk show host heard throughout Ohio and nationwide. He has been prominent in the "Tea Party" protest campaign. Ohio's "Tea Party" movement is one of the nation's largest.

Schiffer attacked the myth of man-made global warming: "Political activists masquerading as scientists violate the Scientific Method. True science is violently opposed to 'consensus' of opinion, and devoted to hard, cold, test results that might shatter consensus. Science is based on repeatable experiments. No experiment has ever shown that man- made carbon dioxide affects the Earth's temperature. In geologic history, CO2 increased about 800 years AFTER warming trends. The Earth has cooled since 1998."

From 1994 through 1997, Paul worked in government affairs for The Better Government Bureau, based in Canton, Ohio. Led by Canton's Ben Suarez, Rodney Napier, and Kenneth Nickalo, the BGB challenged liberal government officials and bureaucracies, including the FDA, EPA, Department of Labor, the United Nations, Hillary Clinton's socialized medicine agenda, and over-reaching State officials.

Schiffer previously ran for State legislature, and in 2008 vied for the Republican nomination for Congress. Schiffer was a Prolife leader in Ohio, head of Witness For Life and Director of the Right to Life Society of Cleveland

First: What law? It was an unConstitional act by the EPA!

Second: Are we to stop breathing? He notes that plants and animals need CO2 to survive. What about us typing on this thread, humans? Inhale! Hold your breath and don't exhale CO2! Just can't be done!

**Are we to stop breathing?**

42% drop in CO2 immediately if Liberals just stop Breathing.

**“The EPA’s decision makes as much sense as calling dihydrogen monoxide a pollutant.”**

Maybe we should Petition to have the EPA Ban DHM as it is so much more Deadly than CO2... or worse.. How long would EPA work on it, before realizing what DHM is

The scary part is that we have journalists who think the EPA can pass laws.

He does present some good ideas including keeping jobs in America. Course that is so 1860’s talk.

Looks like the GOP leadership will not be backing him. Guess he scares them with his conservative views.

Good luck to him.

The GOP will be sure not to fund this guy. Just as they have cut off funding to the Republican running for Ted Kennedy’s old Senate seat.

OH FReepers in the know, does this guy stand a chance in the GOP primary, and in the general election in his district?

This is Ralph Regula's old district (OH-16) currently occupied by first time Rat John Boccieri. The seat is competitive.

My guess is Schiffer is a long shot to win the primary. He came in third in the '06 and my guess is he will again. Then again I don't want to rain on anyone's parade.

May have miss wrote what I read.

Here is what Schiffer wrote "I guess Jim is just too busy raising money, or too busy being 'anointed' by the county Republican 'Bosses' as your next Representative, or he is just too moderate to associate himself with the Tea Party & 912 Project 'rabble' that went to Washington to try to save what is left of the Constitution and the country our Founding Fathers gave us."

Implies local not national.

Maybe someone has more information on this?

"OK, sounds good. Now for reality..."

Reality is the Murkowski amendment to delay EPA for a year.

The amendment was blocked from the EPA funding bill in Sept, but supposedly will be heard, debated and voted on in Jan as part of the debt ceiling legislation.
