AMSTERDAM, Ohio -- Deputies found garbage wall to wall inside the Amsterdam home and now one parent is facing charges.

The 10-year-old girl and 6-year-old boy are in the care of a foster parent tonight and the father is facing a charge of child endangerment.

Sheriff Fred Abdalla said me he did not arrest the mother because she is pregnant with the couples third child.

I caught that one. Wow! It's scary how some people live.

Don't get me wrong; with three kids, I've had mess in my house. Every week or so, it gets to the "dirty stage" and I start getting twitchy until it's clean (from the ceiling fans to the baseboards and everything in between). These folks live in outright filth, and that's truly unsanitary and dangerous for kids.

I'm glad that they are out of there.

That almost happened to a woman on Hoarders...she was sick and had tied herself to an adult potty to go to sleep, then fell halfway off and had gotten wedged in between a bunch of garbage, too weak to get up. Luckily she had one of those alarm things so she used it and the paramedics barely got to her in time. Any longer, she would have died there. Apparently they think some bugs had bitten her and caused an infection, plus she had diabetes and had ulcers the size of golfballs on her feet. Sad.

We had 5 children in 6 1/2 years, thats lots of kid clutter when it comes to toys on the floor, chairs and sofa.......The intolerance was to TO much clutter. Not to no clutter...He even helped me out when the laundry got out of hand....he also wasn’t afraid to run a vacuum if necessary...Made a mean batch of spaghetti every Sunday and even got up at night just to sit with me for night feedings...a special man of the 50’s....He is missed...

My husband and I watch that show regularly—I noticed that about that woman too—she seemed more upset at the animals going than the children.

I’ve had people remark that you couldn’t tell we have four kids because I keep the house so clean. I can’t stand clutter; every couple of weeks I go through and sort through the papers that have piled up and either file or throw them away. I purge stuff on a regular basis and make the kids do a ‘toy purge’ before Christmas. While I’m not anal about cleanliness and clutter (with four kids, who can be), I try to keep it to a standard that I would not be completely mortified if someone dropped by unexpectedly.

I’ve often thought about going into professional organization, but I’m not sure I could deal gracefully with the hoarders. I’d just want to throw stuff out!

Agree with you on that one...those therapists are too accommodating with those people....there is a show on BBC called How Clean is your House. They don't pussyfoot around with the filth, even take cultures of the filth and show them what they are living in....

I LOVE that show, or I did when we used to get BBC (we changed cable tiers and don’t get that channel anymore). I would be more like one of those ladies, minus the cool accents.

Raising 5 kids like that, it sounds like he will live on for generations. I can only pray that I will be remembered so fondly.

I’ve never been to Lima, but have been to Mansfield several times. Mansfield is much better than Steubenville and most of the upper Ohio River area.
