Security: Two of the four leaders allegedly behind the attempted destruction of Flight 253 were released from Guantanamo two years ago. The case for indefinite detention has been made once again, and not in Illinois.
Sometimes America's chickens do come home to roost. In a statement released Monday, al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, which counts among its leadership two former Guantanamo detainees, claimed responsibility for the attempted destruction of Northwest Airlines Flight 253.
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the crotch bomber, told FBI agents he was trained for his Christmas Day mission in Yemen by top leaders of the group who provided him with training and the explosive material needed to bring the passenger jet down. He also told FBI agents that more just like him were in Yemen ready to strike soon.
Two of those leaders former Guantanamo prisoner No. 333, Muhamad Attik al-Harbi, and prisoner No. 372, Said Ali Shari were sent to Saudi Arabia on Nov. 9, 2007, according to the Defense Department log of detainees who were released from American custody. Al-Harbi has since changed his name to Abu al-Hareth Muhammad al-Oufi.

Closing Gitmo never had anything to do with reason. Most of the noise coming from the left is just that, noise, a distraction.
Exactly
I wonder how you train for that?
I'm still interested in the "other" bomber, who was supposedly arrested after the plane landed. Makes me think he lost his nerve, or that plane wouldn't have made it.
I am not sure if you are talking about the guy who locked himself in the bathroom, or the one who had a fire cracker.?
The guy who locked himself in the bathroom was sick. And the guy with the fire cracker was on a completely different plane and it landed in Phoenix, AZ
That would be a mite tricky, even using a mannequin. It was supposed to be set off by a close-in move of injecting some kind of chemical into it, making it even harder to test.
It's interesting how the ex Gitmo residents were supposed to have been involved. While some say this near-tragedy proves that nobody should ever be let go from Gitmo, it strikes me that even with our sweeps, there is no way we could possibly have corralled all possible trouble makers into Gitmo. At any rate I thought the Saudi Arabians were supposed to keep tabs on the guys we send back there. Where are they now?
They are all muzzies, male, same colored: eyes, hair, skin you could match with a paint chip. This one had no pass port, paid in cash, going one way with no luggage. Now we hear the CIA had a profile on the guy. Could it get any easier?
Folks, This is the same Govt (ours) that crashed our economy
Your on your own, get used to it. You are your protection
NCIS , Gibbs would had on a plane to Gitmo when he asked for a lawyer.
Soon after the original attacks of 9/11 happened, the Rat secretary of transportation (Bush’s one nod to the Democrats) nixed the proposal that the US duplicate El-Al’s procedure which has prevented ALL skyjackings of that Israeli airline since it was instituted. Instead we have a cumbersome, insulting, incompetent, Peecee bunch of hacks telling everybody to take their shoes off (but now what are we going to do, strip our underwear too?).
They did not even TELL the Bummer until three hours after the near successful attack. “My Pet Goat” my tochas!
And it took him 72 hours to address the nation.
