Hundreds of Al Qaeda militants are planning terror attacks from Yemen, the country's foreign minister said Tuesday.
Abu Bakr al-Qirbi appealed for more help from the international community to help train and equip counter-terrorist forces.
His plea came after an Al Qaeda group based in Yemen claimed responsibility for the failed Christmas Day airliner bomb plot.
Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, alleged to be behind the attempt to blow up an American-bound aircraft, spent time in Yemen with Al Qaeda and was in the country only days before the failed attack.
Al-Qirbi said: "Of course there are a number of Al Qaeda operatives in Yemen and some of their leaders. We realize this danger.
"They may actually plan attacks like the one we have just had in Detroit. There are maybe hundreds of them — 200, 300."

We’ve already had three Mumbais that I can think of off the top of my head: The DC Snipers, Virginia Tech and Fort Hood.
Yes, it’s coming. But even if it is, I feel that we will merely open one eye, roll over, and fall asleep again. Consider how many politicians and “civic leaders” who still chant the mantra that Islam is a ROP.
America is no longer a sleeping giant — it is just sleeping. How many more Muslims will we allow to immigrate this coming year, and how many terror centers (oops, should’ve said mosques) will we allow them to build?
The problem is that we are no longer united, with our craving for diversity and multiculturalism. In our society, one man’s terrorist is another man’s friend — even our POTUS has declared to be on their side.
Between them all I bet they couldn’t pour piss out a boot if the instructions were written on the bottom ...
Unfortunately even that would not wake America. Its going to take a major city being vaporized or made into a wasteland by a dirty bomb.
The difference between Mumbai, London, Bali or elsewhere vs. the United States is that the citizens here are armed. The terrorists have to know that and will take that into account: Fort Hood, the District of Columbia and Virginia Tech were “gun free” zones and thus vulnerable to that kind of assault. Try such a thing in Fort Worth, Gulfport, Cedar Rapids, Boise or Coral Gables and see where it gets you...

Ruthless acts of barbarism to disrupt the populace and destroy the confidence in leadership. The economy collapses and the country will revolt against the people in office.
It won’t be like Beslan, they will kill everyone, quickly.
Yemen’s pretty desperate now. Their President is not a Wahabbi Sunni, he’s a Shia. The Sunni don’t like him because he’s let the CIA use the predator drones to take out their guys and because he’s Shia. The Iranian-backed Shia think he’s a collaborator with the Sunni because he is working with the Saudis & Jordanians who are blockading Yemen to prevent arms shipments from Iran, which seeks to establish a toehold to use against Saudi Arabia. There is a Fundamentalist Sunni secessionist war going on against the gov in S Yemen with al Qaeda added in, and in the north a tribe of Shia Iran is also fighting the gov, but with Iranian backing. What government there is in Yemen is woefully inadequate to fight two wars against two different and opposed insurgencies. That president looks like a turtle in the middle of a highway and probably can’t expect loyalty from anyone with all those different interests in play.
