The Kern High School District on Wednesday morning will hold a public hearing and consider a petition for a new charter school named after the nation's president. The Barack H. Obama Leadership Academy aims to teach disadvantaged, at-risk teenagers and at the same time provide mental health services and substance abuse treatment, according to the petition. The school board may vote on Wednesday to approve or deny the charter's petition. The district would not comment on the petition pending the hearing and board discussion.

So it would be the educational equivalent of Martin Luther King Blvds. in big cities across the country. Fitting.

It’s that school safety you have to watch out for. Talk about being at risk.

So I’m guessing that the students will get some kind of award after twelve weeks in the school even though they have produced nothing to show for it? And no student will earn less than a solid B+.
And don’t even think about economics being in the curriculum. Social Justice, Grievance 101 & Reverend Wright’s Advanced Anti-American Studies, sure.

California really needs to be spending more money on stuff like this. Why not build three or four schools?

I wonder how many kids are being named Obamao?
To: umgud
They ought to name it after Buck Owens. He did a lot more for Bakersfield than Obama ever did.

Didn't Obama and the Democrats end the Charter School Program in Washington D.C.?
The irony is staggering.
To: umgud
Hey, if it’s a public school, give it a few years and the name will be only too appropriate.

They ought to name it after Buck Owens. He did a lot more for Bakersfield than Obama ever did.We have a Buck Owens Blvd and a Merle Haggard Drive. We also have a Ceasar Chavez and maybe a Martin Luther Kig street, but I never go to those two.

Great Idea. Give the kids their diplomas before they actually accomplish anything, kinda like the nobel cracker jack prize. Then praise them for doing nothing. Fits the name.
What really pisses me off is that, in this country’s history, we have never had a president that is so disrespected by the populace and laughed at by our enemies. What a putz. Hopey/Changey. My ass.
