Me, too, Kathy. We were a bit concerned, but checked the weather and things seemed fine. She was bound and determined to leave today.
She holds to the theory...”a dead fish and guests both stink after 3 days”! LOL!

Good evening, Kathy and Company.
I bought a fun, new front door mat today (on clearance) that looks like a slice of watermelon. It's just so cheery -- it makes me smile! I picked two dozen grapefruits off my tree this afternoon and lined them up in a pretty yellow row on our front lawn, next to the curb, with a sign that reads "Free Grapefruit." I am hoping that people take some -- this approach worked last year pretty well. We also refilled bird feeders and put a new hummingbird feeder out front, too. And we got my nifty purple and green bicycle out of the storage shed and I dusted it off. so I can start using it while my wonderful DH is gone.
I organized my refrigerator today ... which sounds simpler than it was, that's for sure. We sort of had things EVERYWHERE in there, and I wanted some sort of system so I could better keep track of expiration dates and what veggies we have, and what things I need to purchase. It's now very organized, and it actually seems like we have more space in there, as well. It will be easier to keep the fridge organized with my wonderful DH gone for three months, but I have to admit I'd still rather have him home and a disorganized fridge, ya know?
My girlfriend Laura has invited us over for dinner on New Year's Eve ... she's got a British Cookbook and she's making Bubbles & Squeak and Bangers and we're going to drink tea (she'll drink British ale), and we're going to watch Monty Python. I think a themed New Year's Eve evening will be rather smashing, don't you?

Hmmm....your New Year's repast will be something I've never heard of....
"Sounds like a funny drinking game, or some sort of dance step, but Bubbles and Squeak is actually a traditional dish from the UK of fried meat and cabbage. Over the years it has evolved into a fried dish of any sort of leftover, usually involving potatoes."
I bet your grapefruit don't last long....folks love free things.
I think I've seen the watermelon mat before....very cute.
And an organized fridge.....hmmmm.....d:o)

I will let you know if it looks anything like that photo! She described it as mashed potatoes and chopped cabbage fried together, with some sort of meat. She's using bangers (sausages) .... anyway, it sounds yummy, at least!
I've been trying to get back on the healthy eating bandwagon, and have been doing so since Dec 1. I get one day per week "off" -- so my day off for this upcoming week will be New Years' Eve day. This will let me go out to lunch with my wonderful DH for one of his favorite places, before he heads off into the wild blue yonder!
Can you tell that the days are getting longer, yet?
