See my previous post. Detroit is a major hub for Northwest/Delta and receives many of their international flights. Amsterdam is one of the most common places to get from Europe or further parts and connect through to the United States.

I had the complete oppisite thought.
My thought was heck they dont need to blow up planes anymore just throw a hissy fit and all the bells and whistles show up thus disrupting enough to screw up the other sched. flights.
Oh and getting two days of media attention.

One reason MAY be that planes are in Canadian airspace until nearly the descent.
Of course having the largest population of muslims in a non muslim country could also be a reason

...remember, this didn’t happen under george Bush......at least 4 or 5 under the facilitator in chief...I'm not defending the O-hole in the WH but you need to get your facts straight. The September 11 attacks occurred during Bush. Also the shoe bomber, Richard Reid.

Is there some secret base near Detroit that these guys are going for? Seems odd that Detroit would be a focus for anything besides a “jobs” program...very good place for ultra-realistic urban warfare training. plus, your dollar goes a lot farther there.

According to Janet Napolitano it is open season on Americans. Better that than offend a muslim. Good point. Maybe Homeland Security is surrounding the plane because some conservative American took too much shampoo on board. They sure as hell aren't going to offend a Muslim terrorist...
