In his Farenheit 9/11, filmmaker Michael Moore juxtaposes images and words of a terrorist attack in Israel with President Bush's first words about the incident, spoken to a press pool on a golf course, with him leaning casually against a tree. Today, as the nation's law enforcement agencies respond to an attempted terrorist attack on U.S. soil, as the cable news channels and news websites pull in reinforcements to cover the incident from all angles, President Obama has been silent.
In fact, he's been golfing. He received a counterterrorism briefing early this morning, Hawaii time, and moments later, left for the gym. The president's vacation activities might have become the subject of a fierce partisan fight -- but really, the only carping is coming from the usual suspects on the right.
There is a reason why Obama hasn't given a public statement. It's strategy.
Here's the theory: a two-bit mook is sent by Al Qaeda to do a dastardly deed. He winds up neutering himself. Literally.
Authorities respond appropriately; the President (as this president is want to to) presides over the federal response. His senior aides speak for him, letting reporters know that he's videoconferencing regularly, that he's ordering a review of terrorist watch lists, that he's discoursing with his Secretary of Homeland Security.
But an in-person Obama statement isn't needed; Indeed, a message expressing command,

The article, and the comments too, are the lamest piece of rationalization I have ever read. If they only knew how 80% of the country loathes them. Ivory-tower eunuchs, intellectual cretins, obama-worshippers-—you are truly hated by most Americans.
For the same reason he didn’t jump to conclusions and go to Fort Hood the day of the terrorist massacre there. The man is an expert on getting himself elected, but nobody ever told how to actually BE a president. And it doesn’t help that he’s surrounding himself with nothing but left-wing yes men. These are exactly the sort of people who would sit by and do nothing for 444 days while US citizens were held hostage by ammateur fanatics.

Oh you people...do we really want to go back to the days of the BushCheneyHalibuton days where all of our rights were taken away? Remember Europe hated us and we were terrible people. To sum up the article, as usual, Bush bad, Obama perfect and can do no wrong.
All through Bush’s presidency, he was expected and castigated if he did not issue immediate words on anything perceived wrong.
Now, it is Obama’s strategy of “calm?”

Plus, the whole “blowing up planes thing” will soon be history. We are pulling out of Iraq. We have a 17 month timetable for withdrawl from Afghanistan. When we go, we will do so with a total admission of defeat at the hands of Islam. We are giving foreign terroristist full constitutional rights, and we are refusing to identify home-grown or Amrican citizen terrorists (such as John Mohammed or Nidal Hassan) AS terroists. Plus we are much much poorer than we used to be. After 9/11, liberals beat themselves up asking “why do they hate us.” They came up with an answer that fit their political paradigm, and set about electing a president who would make things right. As a result, it stands to reason that they no longer hate us as much. The terrorist attacks againt us should end any day now. God help the Israelis.
