Obama plays golf in Hawaii with friends

KANEOHE BAY, Hawaii - President Barack Obama is playing golf with friends from Hawaii and Chicago on the second full day of his Hawaii vacation.

The president's motorcade traveled a few minutes from his vacation home to the golf course at the Marine Corps base in Kaneohe Bay on Saturday morning.

The Kaneohe Klipper golf course overlooks the Pacific Ocean, and is well-known among island golfers as a scenic course.

Obama is playing with Greg Orme, Mike Ramos, and Bobby Titcomb -- all from Hawaii -- and Eric Whitaker, a friend from Chicago.

Earlier in the day, Obama and his wife worked out at the Marine Corps base gym.

HONOLULU – President Barack Obama’s security teams are briefing the vacationing commander in chief on threats facing the United States, including what progress law enforcement officials are making in investigating a terror attack aboard a Detroit-bound airplane.

Obama on Saturday spoke with homeland security adviser John Brennan and a top National Security Council official, Denis McDonough. The group spoke at 6:20 a.m. local time in Hawaii. Obama’s motorcade left his rented vacation estate for the gym at 6:33 a.m.

White House spokesman Bill Burton says the president is continuing to monitor the situation.

Are you chittin' me? I haven't paid any attention to this but if this vacation is anything like the vacation that he took to the Grand Canyon-Yellowstone last summer, there isn't another group on the course. He had those parks shut down while he was there so that he and that tribe of relatives that he runs around with wouldn't have to associate with the unwashed.

But he has brought his family here nearly every Christmas since he and his wife, Michelle, had their daughters, Malia, 11, and Sasha, 8. This year, Mr. Obama brought his sister and close friends Eric Whitaker and Marty Nesbitt and their spouses.

Valerie Jarrett, another friend who now serves as a senior White House adviser, also joined the relatives and friends staying in two neighboring rental houses in Kailua. Ms. Jarrett said the setting had a rejuvenating effect on Mr. Obama. “His visits allow him to reconnect with his roots and cherished childhood memories,” she said.

BTW- Playing in a 5-some is banned at most all courses because the pace of play is so slow. He could care less about etiquette however.
