Could you please elaborate? How much of what kind of substances did he have?

I read one article that compared PETN to nitroglycerine. What do you say about that? No fair googling!

From what I read he had about 80 grams of powdered PETN (about 2.5 ounces). I don't know what the other substance was. Det cord often has 25-50 grams per foot. Not that I'd want to have a couple or three of feet of det cord in my lap, but that wouldn't bring down an aircraft.

As you should well know, 2.5 ounces of PETN goes up in a flash, in a split second. Unconfined it would probably flare and be extremely frightening in the confinement of an aircraft.

Now that I would think was the problem for the bomber.

IMO I think he never had the detonater set up right or connected as it should have been.
Course there would have to be more info released to know this but that’s a guess.
The amount he had would have brought down the plane and just on TV recently they showed what the amount would have done on the plane.

to add I've never seen explosives wrapped in underpants before so I have no idea how this was going to work.

Rex,c4 and semtex cold have done the job and the preferred method for terrorists from the IRA was to use semtex with a speed detector and them sit away using a radar gun to set off the detonator attached to the explosive I'm sure more details will come out soon about this but I heard it was well put together. course maybe not as we have no idea how those folks got into the white house for a party so God knows if any details will come out about this
