White House: Failed plane attack an attempted act of terrorism(Obama told 3 HOURS AFTER PLANE LANDS)
Washington Post ^ | December 25, 2009 | Scott Butterworth and Spencer S. Hsu

A White House official said the incident was an attempted act of terrorism. The FBI is investigating and President Obama, celebrating Christmas in Hawaii, was told of the incident about three hours after the plane landed, officials said.

Obama has told White House officials that all appropriate measures be taken to increase security for air travel, a spokesman said. Nevertheless, officials said, they are not prepared to raise the terrorism alert level, currently at orange -- or the second-highest of five levels -- for domestic and international air travel.

What I want to know is who has the 'football'? Maybe they should have called that guy. Otherwise, it is incredibly stupid to proclaim to the world that we have our pants down in case someone decides a nuclear war might be survivable. Three hours is forever in a fast developing situation.

That is a fair question.

Whoever decided NOT to tell Obama or whoever put in place a policy NOT to tell Obama also decided that nothing much had happened, a little fire, a little smoke on board an airliner, nothing much really [except for the people there, of course, but they're nobodies, right?].

They could not know there were not 20 more planes still to be targeted [or could they? with this president, it's hard to be sure whose side he is on].

They could not know if this was a diversion, meant to draw attention to something not yet noticed, and far more of a threat.

Unless, of course, the person making the decisions was informed immediately and had the football nearby.

For the paranoid [and Obama makes it hard not to wonder a LOT]it is interesting that Obama and his family are thousands of miles from Washington and safely upwind of the mainland when all of this happens.

Very presidential.

Not a new concept. Kerry ran for president in flip-flops...

Obama begins vacation with a terror briefing

Dec 25 10:46 PM US/Eastern
By PHILIP ELLIOTT
Associated Press Writer
KANEOHE BAY, Hawaii (AP) - President Barack Obama's Christmas Day began with a briefing about a botched attack on an airliner in Detriot and ended with a visit to a dining hall for members of the military.

His holiday vacation was designed to be an island respite from the pressures of the White House.

Obama's military aide told the president about an incident aboard a plane as it was landing in Detroit just after 9 a.m. here. The president phoned his homeland security adviser and the chief of staff to the National Security Council for a briefing. Throughout the government, officials compared notes and reports about a Northwest Airlines passenger from Nigeria who, according to sources, claimed he was acting on orders from al-Qaida.

"We believe this was an attempted act of terrorism," one White House official said on the condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive situation.

Later in the day, Obama made a surprise visit to military members to thank them for their service to the nation and meet with those in uniform executing his war plans.

The policies of this administration, his attacks against our allies while coddling the enemies of this nation, have told terrorist it’s open season on the US.

We all know it’s coming - there will be another major attack on US soil.

After 9/11, President Bush had our allies to turn too for help and cooperation in defeating terrorism. Who will Obama turn to? Chavez? Castro?

The media went to war against Bush at the behest of the DNC and other enemies of the US. Not only did War On Bush harm our national security, the press convince peopled across the globe that Bush was evil, stupid, incompetent - a war monger. Countries who may still help us when we are attacked will have a much more difficult time convincing their citizens to support us.

Eventually the media will have no choice but to report on how screwed our national security and standing in the world really is. While they will report, I have no doubts the press will continue to cover for Dear Leader. In fact, I guarantee they will blame Bush for any attacks on our soil. After all, poor Obama did inherit Bush’s “war”.

At least Greta and others found it important enough to bring up. Last night while watching Greta’s 2 hr special on FOX she spent time on the issue of the 3 hr. gap of time Obama was not told. This was also discussed with John Bolton.

I missed her special. Would you mind answering a few questions about the show for me and others who may have missed it?

How long did Greta say the delay was? 3 hours as originally reported or less?

Did she have any information on why there was a delay in briefing Obama?

What did Bolton have to say about it?

Did either of them mention how, although the White House admits there was a delay, some in the media are now covering for Obama - claiming he was told immediately or even changing the time the WH's original press release says he was informed?

I'd really appreciate it if you would do this! Thanks

Greta stated 3 hrs. and also wondered how, why.

Bolton was miffed at this also. Wondered how far up the chain it went and why Obama not told after three hrs.

You might want to check if FOX has a You tube up from this special, if not up now should be in the next days.

For all the comments and others on re this, I would have to see a transcript to give exact comments.
Something like this you don’t want to just throw out words.

We need conservative film makers, actually we need conservatives in all of the arts. Then, we should support them.

I know there are conservative film makers and documentary makers. Breitbart does a great job of promoting them and many of the people on Big Hollywood are in the industry.

We know Michael Moore won’t go after Obama and even if he did, given his track record of dishonesty, I would not support him. I’d bet many others would feel as I do.

Let’s hope someone like John Zeigler starts going after Obama in an edgy and entertaining way.

FNC had three of the passengers from this flight on its morning show this a.m. One of the passengers stated that they were kept incommunicado for three hours. Found that mention of the time interesting since it was the same amount of time that it took to inform Barry of the bombing attempt.

Anyone else heard if the passengers were kept buttoned up for three hours?

And why it took three hours for Barry to be apprised?

Reports from other passengers have been they were kept on the plane for 20 minutes or more when it first landed. This obviously was distressing for them, considering they didn’t know if there was a bomb on board.

The FBI interviewed each passenger and crew before allowing anyone to leave. It may be that this passenger was one of the last to be interviewed and was not been kept updated on what was going on.

As for oBozo, no word yet on why it took hours to inform him, and no word on why the majority of the press is covering his rear end for it.

Boy, did I hit a nerve or what?

Or what.People like you never say what they think to people's faces, especially when a keyboard is available, so at a point it is all just considering the source.

But hey, if you don't like what's on TV then change the channels and if you don't like what's on my profile then don't look at it, those pics are for my friends and those who would like to be friends.

But I choose not to falsely display to the world my arrogance and self-admiration of myself.

LOL...I'll have you know that there is nothing false about my arrogance and self-admiration! In fact, it stretches the boundaries of my consescension to even acknowledge your existance.

But your tone smacks of jealousy to the n-th degree!

I am guessing that you have never had to report a serious incident to someone higher up. There’s nothing disgraceful about that.

However, you are certain that you’d report speculation and unconfirmed claims to the president and present that to him for his decision making process. That doesn’t do anyone any good, but you’d insist that he have it anyway, right?

Yep, Bush waited a few minutes so as to not frighten school children.

Obama, well the media doesn’t care that he’s too busy doing the Hula dance to fight the war on terror.

Cheney was right, the media should apologize to him.

Be my guest to be the one to deliver speculation and rumor to someone like the president for an immediate, initial report.

But I’ll bet it is the last time you do that. LOL!

Is there a difference between an AQ operative on an AQ sanctioned mission and some individual with suspected possible links to AQ who is trying to prove a point by himself?

The president will want to know if it was an isolated criminal act or part of an orchestrated widespread attack on national interests.

And you’ll want to have something besides IDK as your response.

Given recent history, I hope that there are procedures and actions for a president to take other than sitting back and seeing what happens over the next day or so.

Like what? Like tell DHS to apprehend and investigate?

Or Tell DHS to increase surveilliance and detection activities?

Maybe you think the president should describe to DHS how they should do their jobs?

Maybe you think the president should describe to the counter terrorist organizations how they should do their jobs?

Maybe while he's at it, the president can tell GM how to build cars, Bank of America how to loan money, and doctors how to practice medicine!

Have you ever considered that some of these agencies and organizations can actually function and perform their missions well even when Obama isn't personally directing them?

As of only a few moments ago.

I’ve been discussing this in light of the article originally posted on this thread.

I don’t know why AQ would want to claim this.

Based on what I’ve read on this so far he had about 2.5 ounces of PETN which is a secondary explosive agent when confined. The original article called his device an incendiary device not an explosive device.

This device doesn’t appear to be designed to explode but to burn.

The amount of it even if it had exploded would have certainly damaged the aircraft but not blown it up and some have claimed.

And whoever sent him on this mission knew that.
