A White House official said the incident was an attempted act of terrorism. The FBI is investigating and President Obama, celebrating Christmas in Hawaii, was told of the incident about three hours after the plane landed, officials said.
Obama has told White House officials that all appropriate measures be taken to increase security for air travel, a spokesman said. Nevertheless, officials said, they are not prepared to raise the terrorism alert level, currently at orange -- or the second-highest of five levels -- for domestic and international air travel.

Obama was alerted to Friday's incident between 9 and 9:30 a.m. in Hawaii, which is five hours behind the East Coast.
After being informed by his military aide, the president convened a secure conference call with John O. Brennan, his counterterrorism adviser, and Denis McDonough, chief of staff at the National Security Council. He later received updates from each man, senior officials said.
Plane landed at 1 pm ET or 8 am Honolulu time.
Obama was notified about 60-90 minutes later.

IMO, the more serious the situation the longer someone needs to keep Obama out of the loop so that he doesn’t pull the plug on appropriate responses.

A foreign national who is on a U.S. government watch list of people with suspected terrorist ties to Al Qaeda, gets on a plane headed to the U.S. and attempts to blow the plane up over U.S. soil.

0bama’s staff sees no problem waiting three hours to tell the president that a self identified Al Queada member attempted to destroy a plane with 300 people on it. The attack happened on Christmas, which many non-Christians believe to be Christianity’s most important day.

First off, based on the article Obama was informed within 90 minutes so your outrage was misplaced from the beginning.
Second, you still haven't said why the president needed to IMMEDIATELY know that a man successfully burned the hell outta his leg in an unsuccessful, bungling attack by a man with unconfirmed claims to AQ.
