Man Attempts to Set Off Explosives on Detroit-Bound Airplane

Suspect Was Already on the Government's No-Fly List

Federal officials and police are interviewing a Nigerian man, who allegedly tried to "explode" a powdery substance aboard a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, injuring himself and two other passengers, law enforcement officials said.

Unconfirmed reports say a firecracker was ignited on flight bound for Detroit.

The man said he was directed by al Qaeda to explode a small device in flight, over U.S. soil, ABC News has learned. Authorities have no corroboration of that information, and the credibility of the suspect's statements are being questioned, officials said.

The man was apparently already on the government's no-fly list of suspected terrorists, according to a senior intelligence official.

"The subject is claiming to have extremist affiliation and that the device was acquired in Yemen along with instructions as to when it should be used," a federal situational awareness bulletin stated.

Northwest Airlines flight 253 landed safely in Detroit at 11:53 a.m. The man, flew from Nigeria to Amsterdam and then Detroit, was taken into custody at the Detroit airport and was interviewed by authorities there. He was then taken to an area hospital to be treated for burns.

I believe a few planes were turned back or diverted for this sort of thing under Bush. I do agree that an ultimatum should be given to the nations that don’t recognize our no fly list.

On the other hand, the no fly list has shown itself to be pretty flawed on too many occasions.

We're dealing with muzzies here,

My guess is that we're dealing with know-nothing reporters. Suggesting that someone trying to ignite some exposed powder was lighting an explosive is enough to call for close examination of the entire story.

You’re probably right, but it still burns me up thinking of us being dictated to by these punk-a** nations. But then I remind myself: President Barak Obama. And I realize, this is all small stuff.

Well, I’m certainly not going to argue with you that reporters, on the whole, are know-nothing.

Let us observe and state the obvious. Muslims are terrorists. That cute little Muzzy family down the block is only waiting either for the signal to attack, or the phone call which will tell them that if they fail to attack they will be killed.

Time to kick each and every Muslim out of this country. Religious freedom you say!!!???? Religious freedom is for peaceful assembly and people who obey the Ten Commandments, not for blood thirsty animals from the 12th century.

Stop this ROP sh*t!

If you read the article carefully, I think you will find that the words ‘powdery substance’ and ‘device’ are used.

Can you use a little imagination and combine this information to come up with ‘powdery substance contained in a device’?

You are making it sound as if the perp was trying to set off a handful of loose powder. Why?

Because that's how the article reads. No one talks about igniting gunpowder when someone fires a bullet.

The fat spunkmonkey probably just wanted to martyr himself thinking it's the closest he's ever going to get to a woman...no 72 virgins for you, loser.

However I do hear that Helen Thomas is available...

No! It was NOT FIREWORKS.

The guy had powder strapped to his leg and a volatile liquid to pour on the powder to make it explode.

This is just more of the PC police allowing a “no fly” person on an aircraft. Unbelievable stupid - and somebody needs to get fired.

And then there is this line:

“The motive of the Christmas Day attack was not immediately clear.”

They attack us on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,Thursday,Friday,Saturday and Sunday...but it's not clear why they would attack on Christmas Day...

updated 12:50 a.m. ET Dec. 26, 2009
ROMULUS, Mich. - A Nigerian man tried to light a powder aboard a commercial jetliner before it landed Friday in Detroit in what senior U.S. officials called an attempted act of terrorism.

Flight 253 with 278 passengers and 11 crew members aboard was 20 minutes from the airport when passengers heard popping noises, witnesses said. Passengers saw the attempted attack, and at least one of them jumped on the man and subdued him, airline officials and passengers said.

The man had “some kind of incendiary device he tried to ignite” in a bag strapped to his body, U.S. officials told NBC News. Other officials told NBC station WDIV-TV of Detroit that the device was a mixture of powder and liquid, which failed to ignite when the passenger tried to detonate it

Did they read him his Miranda rights, before questioning him?

Will AG Holder, prosecute him, or send him back to Nigeria, for recycling?

Is his tribe related to Obama’s?
