The legend and it may be an urban legend in England, was said to be "withdrawal of fluids". I say this because I do not trust bleeding heart liberals. This breed is universal and need to be watched. They care not for the persons who have served their time and are considered no longer any use.

I read an article once that claimed that King George V was slipped the black bottle during a long and perilous health battle because Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin wanted the "crisis" over .... so he interfered with the King's doctor. As soon as the doctor, the story goes, slipped His Majesty the dose, the King opened his eyes, looked at the doctor, and said "God damn you" -- his last words.

By polishing off the King, of course, Baldwin, said at the time and often afterward to have been "the smartest man in British politics", unwittingly accelerated the succession crisis over Edward VIII and his unsuitable American intended, Wallace Simpson. Had George V recovered, the growing difficulty might have been sidestepped quietly before King George eventually passed from the scene.

Baldwin was also conspicuous in Why England Slept for his inertness toward the rising threat of German Nazism. Like an American president 60 years later, he preferred to "kick the can" and let someone else deal with it, rather than spend any of his own precious political capital.

PolitiFact.com feeds the leftist rags until their bellies are bloated.

Favorite left-wing tactic: cite "studies" and talk down to people who are perfectly right and have their number.

Johns Hopkins University has a black research shop that, under contract, has sifted and parsed data about firearms ownership to produce "statements" useful to gun-control liars and polemicists. Typical m.o. is to notice that gun suicides, for example, occur ~100% of the time in homes where a gun is present. Wonderfully emotive talking point, even if it's a tautology and an "Irish bull".

Its propaganda warfare, they have it wrong in the UK, the Obamacare will indeed do a triage effect when it dictates the degree of services per age and or disabilities.

In its now modified form about to pass its even more bastardized and restrictive. The future society of America must excise the weak, a wounded soldier requires much more of a drain of resources than a dead soldier.

By Obamas own admission their will be a tighter leaner government. Dead people are cheap to dispose of.

You have to be a moron not to realize bureaucrats are going to decide who gets care and what kind of care and who doesn’t.

Yes, even Democrats get it, which was why Sarah and Betsy McCaughey scored.

From the linked Politifact article, one of their own guys -- who hastened to add afterward that he thinks GOPers are lying, bigoted, mismotivated scum -- said this:

The phrase "death panels" appears to be original to Palin. A search of news databases showed no use prior to her Facebook posting. History professor Ian Dowbiggin, who has written several books on medical history, euthanasia and eugenics, said he had never heard the term before Palin used it. He said the phrase invokes images of Nazi Germany, which denied life-saving care to people who were not deemed useful enough to broader society. Adolf Hitler ordered Nazi officials to secretly register, select, and murder handicapped people such as schizophrenics, epileptics, disabled babies and other long-stay hospital patients, according to Dowbiggin.

"It's not far-fetched to make the historical argument that as you get government more and more involved in health care, you create an environment that is more hospitable to the legalization of forms of euthanasia," Dowbiggin said. "But the Nazi example should be used very advisedly."

Which is where the celebrated Rahm Emanuel bon mot, "Dead! Dead! Dead!!!" comes in (</stabbing knife into table for emphasis>).

The Telegraph told a much bigger whopper when they used the term "experts" as the ones making the decision.

It is sad. I am 60 years old, and I NEVER EVER thought that I would feel this way about my country and the MSM. This definitely NOT the country of my younger days.

Your comment on euthenasia.

..... the King opened his eyes, looked at the doctor and said "God damn you"-- his last words

. Your post appreciated and deserves a little more here. Come to think of it, had the old sailor King been around at the crisis of the Sudatenland (Munich), what if he shouted at Chamberlain and told him, stand up to that "gutter snipe" in Berlin? .......

I remember my late mother who was in Hillingdon Hospital, Middlesex, in the early years of the last war, talking. I would not make this up. She said a woman called out all night in the ward for water. She said the other women patients said, if she had been given water she might have lived.

Only when I learned from new family history of a great aunt expressing belief she was marked and moved to a bed nearest the ward exit door, did I put the two together. "Withdrawal of fluids".

I should attempt the lighter side- if so it is, in mentioning Lord Penn and his memoirs. The majestic tones of the BBC came on as "The King's life is drawing peacefully to a close". The word went out that his last words were "How stands the Empire?" It was of course, as you quote- "Damn you".

The head nurse was told under orders to give the final fatal injection. Imagine with the old hands of power standing by. She refused. They did it.

Sounds like a certain lady from Alaska would have done in that case, had she been a nurse. Refused!

Well, I suppose I'm taking a liberty, imagining a woman like Sarah Palin in that situation (or Maggie the greengrocer's girl, for that matter), but I can imagine them taking a page from the old Girl Guides manual, taking their gloves off and decking the closest man to them, and standing over their charge like tigresses, daring the rest of those jackals to just try it!

That's the way people used to be brought up, in the better families. And I mean better morally, not in any other way.

My English aunt had some trouble getting a hip replacement while under the "care" of the NHS in Yorkshire. Things dragged on painfully for years, until her (Indian immigrant) doctor(ess) raised holy hell and got her the operation. They were playing the odds and trying to wait her out, you see.

"Nice" guys.

We need that over here like we all need a migraine. ...And cancer.
