Republicans are stepping up their efforts to persuade more House Democrats to switch parties and are zeroing in on a second-term Pennsylvanian who is not ruling out such a move.
Democratic Rep. Chris Carney received a phone call Wednesday from Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) asking him to consider becoming a Republican, a top GOP official told POLITICO. A spokesman for Carney declined to say if the congressman was considering such a switch.
No further comment at this time, said Carney spokesman Josh Drobnyk, who would only confirm that the call took place.
In a brief interview, McCain declined to offer details about the conversation. I just said, Whatever you do, I know that youll make the right decision for the country, said the Arizonan.

Wouldn’t it just be easier for McCain to become a Dem? And take his little dog Toto Graham with him?
Ah, the Keyboard Kommandos strike again. If we were all as perfect as you are, we wouldn’t be in this situation. But life isn’t like that.
Give them their Road to Damascus moment (google it if you don’t know what I’m talking about) and encourage them for at least attempting to oppose this monstrous opposition of fascism.
Why shoot them down when they’re actually doing something right? How is that any incentive?
Switching to a minority party is very unusual and a sign of how bad the Dems have gotten.
If Newt and Dede had not screwed us with the NY State RINO GOP in NY 23 then that would hev been one more vote.
Maybe that Repub in MA can win Kennedy’s seat on the Jan 19 election. There has to be qa way to stop this bill or sabotage it.
maybe they want obamacare to pass and totally wreck the country so that the one true pure conservative will emerge from the ashes and lead us to the promised land
Every little bit helps to rid us of Speaker Nancy. Her demotion will be the sweetest thing.
I think we were only able to do that after the GOP won in 94
Ditto.
Yes, that’s true. But IMHO, if there’s any way we can get a vote, we go for it.
I hope this bill can be stopped and I honestly don’t care who stops it.
Once Obama and the radical left get the shell in place, there will be no leverage over the Dems, no way to stop the “enhancement” of the act, and we will be so screwed the only way out will be something I don’t even want to contemplate. It’s got to be stopped NOW.
Probably. That will happen about the time the 1 Billionth Imam arises from his well.
Ya get to a point where ya’d rather go down to defeat than continue following old crap like RINO McLame and his ilk.
Graham, McLame, Martinez? NO MORE NEVER AGAIN.
Conservative or f-off. NO F-ING RINOs.
Blue Dog Dems are in a lot of trouble in the South and Midwest. Families who have voted for Dem’s for generations in those regions have now seen the light. This is even happening to an extent in Massachusetts in the special election. The GOP candidate is a long shot to win, but he could wind up with a strong showing at the voting booth next month.
The Blue Dog Dem in my district is scared for the first time. Older rural voters (traditionally Democrat voters) turned out for local townhall meetings and Tea Parties. Things are changing here. Today we received a mailing from the Blue Dog Dem with the title “Protecting Medicare for Florida Seniors”. Best laugh of the day.
This is one defeat we can’t afford. Once Bambi and the Dems get this one in place, I honestly think we’re not going to be able to do anything about it, or at any rate, not through the normal channels.
All they want is the framework and the enforcement mechanism now, and they’ll fill in the details later. I think the light is beginning to dawn even for idiot RINOs, and they may be having the one good moment of their entire political careers.
I have never liked McCain and I voted for him because he was the only alternative to Obama and I was really voting for Sarah. I read a comment once that McCain was the only POW ever known to gain weight, and I think this reflects his compromising mentality. But even if he has just stood up for this one thing, we should support him at this moment, on this issue, and not shoot ourselves in the foot.
plenty of state legislatures now in control by GOP and they are redistricting...
this is why Bart Gordon opted out
our biggest problem is in the Senate
and not just with Dems
I’m OK with grabbing these seats this way now but these seats will need to go into conservative hands in the next election.
Mccain give me a break all you had to do is get your first choice of VP not to vote for this thing and now you want to lead the opposition what a joke.
A PA Democrat named Atkinson switched in 1981 and was promptly retired by the liberal PA voters in 1982.
Maybe you didn’t get the memo?
NO MORE GUTLESS RINOs!
THAT INCLUDES ‘RATS JUMPING SHIP! We’ll just get them in the primary anyway.....
