According to Philadelphia Eagles players, the most courageous man on the team in 2009 was one who started the year serving time in prison for an act of extreme cowardice.
Today, the Eagles announced that Michael Vick was the 2009 winner of the Ed Block Courage Award, an honor given to a player who shows courage in the face of adversity. Vick's teammates voted for the award, thus demonstrating how tone-deaf and out-of-touch NFL players are with reality.

According to the Ed Block Courage Award Foundation Web site:
The Ed Block Courage Award recipient symbolizes professionalism, great strength and dedication. He is also a community role model.

Sporadic acts of violence by Eagles fans against fans of visiting teams, combined with ongoing difficulties relating to public drunkenness, prompted Philadelphia municipal judge Seamus McCaffrey and the Philadelphia Police Department to establish a small, in-stadium courtroom at the Vet in 1997. Additionally, plainclothes officers, dressed in the colors of the visiting team, were dispatched to sit in sections known as being dangerous to opposing fans, most such sections being located in the Vet’s notorious “700 Level” at the top of the stadium. The success of the program was widely noted and has continued to the present day (Lincoln Financial Field includes a built-in prison facility and courtroom for such purposes). Overzealous Eagle fans caught by such sting operations are arrested, charged and taken to the courtroom, where McCaffrey usually sits in judgment. Such efforts have made the inside of the stadium much safer for opposing fans than was previously the case, but the stadium parking lots (and subways to the games) are still notoriously anarchic places. Such behavior aside, the majority of fans are well-behaved, if vocal.
The world isn’t crazy. It’s just that the establishment has been subverted. It is a deliberate act, not just “bad judgement”.
IMO, it does not mean bestowing some feel-good, bogus award upon him that makes a mockery of the meaning of "courage".
No doubt the NFL is focused grouped for drunks, being why they tolerate such a farce to be fielded.
In a show of their commitment to diversity and openness, the team has announced that the finalists for next year’s award will include David Huckabee and David Berkowitz.
No way. There is enormous pressure among blacks not to "snitch" to authorities on any crime. You are never to testify or help law enforcement against another black.
This is insane.
That’s right!
Your dog told you post that, didn’t he?
Hallelujah! Bring it on!
My son was at the the Atlanta - Eagles game last month. He said when Michael Vick came into the game he was booed. After he:
1. Threw a TD pass
2. Ran in for a TD
the crowd was chantng “We want Vick. We want Vick!”
The fans probably booed because Vick switched teams. In the NFL that is a bigger crime, unfortunately.
