...Anger and opposition to Washington's policies and edicts--no matter now egregious--hardly ever translate into anything beyond words of frustration. And Washington politicians don't pay much attention to rhetoric--not even their own.
You see, the wizards in Washington and on Wall Street have us figured out. Along with their compatriots in the propaganda press corps, they know that no matter how loudly we scream, how much we protest, or how angry we become, the system is rigged to protect them. The best we the people can seem to come up with is "throwing the bums out" every two or four years. BUT NOTHING CHANGES--at least, not in terms of restoring the fundamental principles of freedom and constitutional government....

A CONSERVATIVE MANIFESTO
Be it resolved that the following objectives be committed to, and dedicated within our hearts and souls to save the Republic.
1. We Must stay involved in the pro-constitutional demonstrations called Tea Parties in our local and national levels. Do not let up!
2. We must find and support all candidates who embrace the Conservative Cause of true reform. Be they of any political party or no party at all.
3. We must urge, nudge, petition and support reforms to end or limit corruption in local, state and national government.
4. We must—in California—use the referendum and recall powers to weed out corrupt and liberals who weaken our beloved state.
5. We must support local and national conservative leaders. They are taking the heat for us. We may not agree with all they say but, we must support them as much as we can with letters, treasures, and work. This is important—small issues must not divide us.
6. If candidates can not be found—we must urge common citizen within the movement to run. We must take over the school boards, the city governments, the county governments, the state legislatures,he State Governorships, the congress and Senate—and at last the White House. If there is an elected job—large or small—we should do all we can to make sure its a Conservative.
7. We must do all we can to get the message out—our foes would like to strangle the movement in its infancy—like Hera tried to strangle Hercules with serpents. We must expose any anti-democratic move of our enemies. We must resolve to write letters to the editors (making sure they are well reasoned arguments and not just rants). We must support Conservative Media (such as Talk Radio) and do all we can to support Conservative media even if we must publish our own newspapers and magazines.
8. We must dedicate ourselves to REFORM—in our own lives as well as in government. These are the times to try men’s souls. Go back to your church or temple, Give time to your families and friends. Each of us will be part of a great, historic process that will pull the nation back to her core. This is no small thing we are attempting. Know well that our foes are ruthless and some may well lose their lives (one has already lost a finger) before it is done. Freedom isn’t free.
9. We must gather and resolve to make our voices heard in the next election 2010. This may well mean walking from door to door, stuffing envelopes or making contributions, The stink of corruption must be washed away if we are to make real change in governemnet. We must set timelines, unify putting aside our differences, just as the patriots did in the Revolution. This is a revolution—a peaceful one true—but a revolution indeed.
10. Lastly, let us vow within our hearts our dedication to the cause aforementioned. Each of us will do all we can to bring about an end to the liberal agenda in the land. Let us resove to do so within the framework of our constutition. We must reach out to others of like minds, or any who seek reform and real change. In this way we will be set upn the path of the ultimate victory-—Liberty for all.

Be it resolved that the following objectives be committed to, and dedicated within our hearts and souls to save the Republic.
This made sense decades ago.
The States are all dependent on the Feds now, Govs want to be elected and reelected. Their words mean nothing.
No modern Gov will take action against the Feds.
The author is absolutely correct! Excellent commentary!
Directing all of our anger and attention toward Washington is a complete waste of time and energy. Our elected “representatives” are no longer listening to us, in case you hadn’t noticed at the town hall meetings this past summer. They don’t care what we think any more.
Instead, focus on your home state. Demand candidates for state rep., state senator, governor and sheriff who are willing to tell the feds to go pound sand. Or run for office yourself. (I hear the pay is pretty good and there’s no heavy lifting.)
If even ONE STATE had the balls to say “hell no” to any of the ten thousand atrocities inflicted upon us by the feds, Washington would go crazy and actual change could begin. Let one state refuse to send income taxes to Washington, to cover the cost of unfunded mandates from the feds, and see how many other states would follow suit.
Sweeping change must begin at the state level. We can’t do this as individuals and we can’t expect any help from Washington. The states hold the key!
Please ~ping~ me to articles relating to the 10th Amendment/States Rights so I can engage the pinger.

Okay I will. A common national currency is the design of the founders. Full faith and credit - facilitates (regulates) interstate commerce - THE most important function of the federal government </my $.02>.
Good essay!
Good commentary. Except I’m not sure the “state currency” idea would work. It didn’t work too well in the “old days”. But I like the idea of repealing the 17th amendment. I wonder if you can track and directly chart the growth of the federal government once this was passed?
Really this might be a good idea—according to this commentary. However, I see the options drying up pretty quickly. This country, as a whole, is pretty much finished. Thanks to dimwit Marxists.
At least somebody gets it.
Thanks. Something else the Founders probably got right so I don't understand the author's problem with a national currency unless he wants to go back to the Articles of the Confederation. From most accounts, they were not a good system.
Some weeks ago another Freeper and I got into a fairly lengthy discussion re repealing the 17th Amendment. I wanted to find out for myself just what was the genesis of the 17th. What I discovered was instructive. Turns out, MANY states had resorted to cronyism(for lack of a better term) when selecting US senators. The hue and cry from The People in many states was for popular election of US senators to eliminate the "bought and paid for" seat. The numbers escape me but quite a few states had already began putting candidates on the ballot even before approval of the 17th. So, it appears The People actually had their way. The rule of unintended consequences apparently applies here.
This country, as a whole, is pretty much finished. Thanks to dimwit Marxists.
I'm more inclined to place the blame squarely in the laps of the "mainstream" media, who in fact might also satisfy your label. And to only a slightly lesser degree, The People generally, as they became fat, dumb, and happy. It was not always the case. Competing medias existed for much of our history, that is basically, applying some labels, conservative vs progressive. For whatever reasons, the "progressive" media is about all that survived the purges that began fairly early in the 20th century but came to almost full fruition roughly halfway through the 20th century. Some "conservative" media was still around but in a weakened AND diminishing state. The WHY of this transition is the question of the ages IMHO.
Merry Christmas!
A good test of a federal power, without even looking at the words of the Constitution, would be "does it strengthen the states in general, facilitate the trade between them, or enhance their position on the world stage?" If it does any of those things it is probably constitutional. If it doesn't, or if it harms states or people in some way, it is outside the purpose of the federal government and it probably isn't constitutional.
Our US Senators are supposed to be the keeper-guardians of that relationship between the states and the fedgov, but the seventeenth amendment has changed that in effect.
bttt
It IS important to be out front with that. We must be non-violent on approach but prepared to defend. There WILL be pain among, and violence from, the interests vested in the status quo.
The principle for which we contend is bound to reassert itself, though it may be at another time and in another form. ..
-- Jefferson Davis
What the people didn't realize was that it is easier to fight State corruption/cronyism than it is to fight National corruption/cronyism. What a fine mess we got ourselves into -- and how to get out of it?
Merry Christmas to you FGS!
Exactly so! One has to wonder if most people ever gave it a second thought? All they knew is they wanted the corruption, nepotism, etc within the state re senate seats to go away, unintended consequences be damned!
What a fine mess we got ourselves into -- and how to get out of it?
Don't know the best solution to resolve this fine mess. The States have the wherewithal to push back but how many actually will. Too many of them have also been bought and paid for by the federales' misapplication of OUR tax dollars. FWIW, folks seem to be waking up; and none too soon. Question is, is it too late??? That is, short of taking up arms to right the wrongs?
We must take over the school boards,

With the aim to privatize all K-12 education and to completely SHUT DOWN every government school in this nation!
