ObamaCare’s a done deal: So here’s mapping out the road to repeal

The road to repeal starts here.

Now that Nebraska Sen. Ben Nelson has caved on his abortion-related objections and will vote for cloture, there’s not much left to do. ObamaCare, one of the worst bills ever to be considered by Congress, is going to pass and be signed into law.

Who wants to sign the repeal? There will still be the conference committee negotiations to iron out differences between the House and Senate, but let’s not kid ourselves. That’s not even a bump in the road. And while the bill may be slightly less disastrous than one that would have included a public option or a Medicare expansion, it’s bad enough as it is.

It will still hamstring the insurance industry with unsustainable restrictions on who must be covered, and for how much, and under what conditions. It will still set up “insurance exchanges” run by the government. It will still impose unprecedented mandates on individuals.

And it remains as fiscally fraudulent as ever. In order to claim the bill somehow reduces the deficit over 10 years, those “scoring” the bill at the Congressional Budget Office simply omit a certain Medicare-reimbursement increase of more than $200 billion for doctors, and only count spending over five years even while they count revenues in the form of new taxes and fees starting immediately.

Try this: Total up the money you’ll earn for the next 10 years, but only total up five years of your spending. You’re rich!

Keep telling yourself that.

Oh, and by the way, for those who still want to pretend there are no death panels, check into the Comparative Effectiveness Research Panel. No death panels, my ass.

I think it was Bernie Goldberg who raised the notion of repeeal on Bill O’Reillys show last night, and O’Reilly blew the idea off with “Yeah, well when has THAT ever happened?”

Prohibition, for one. And that took a constitutional amendment.

I don’t know why Bernie let himself get rolled by BOR on this, but what say you?

For sure, the fight would have to be led by someone whose opposition to it is unquestioned and who has a history of reform, standing up to the party interests, fighting the ‘good ole boy network’, and is a charismatic leader and speaker. Not that I have any idea where we could find such a ma...I mean person...

Time for small business to start laying off about 5,000,000 democrats a month to right size their business. Let’s send Harry, Nancy and Obummer our message that we won’t and can’t pay for their overspending.

Let 2010 be the year to lay a democrat off from business across America.

Repealing Prohibition took a constitutional amendment because Prohibition was passed via constitutional amendment. But your point is well taken, that the political climate can change and we may see this thing repealed someday.

Even if Republicans take back Congress in 2010, a repeal law would be vetoed by Obama. We need to elect the right people in Congress AND a new President in 2012 to get this repealed.

I am very depressed since this morning when I learned of Nelson’s betrayal!

So many people drinked the kook-aid that they think they are getting a good deal!

If only they could read the whole damn thing they would find out they’ve been had!

The country is headed for a civil war! We have had enough of the leftists! Even one is too many now!

YES! Amnesty = 20 million plus new democrat voters. THAT is the reason the democrats are voting for obamacare even
though their constituencies are overwhelmingly opposed.

Well, so much for Nelson’s principled stand... What price usurpation?

This thing is absolutely anti-Constitutional. I hope SCOTUS has the cojones to say so.

It isn’t a done deal until the vote indicates it’s done.
One of the demoRat Senators could be struck down by a lightning bolt from God above.

According to Rush, Congress had to deal with health care first so they would not have to include the cost for illegals. Once they clear health care, they will shove through amnesty and insure the illegals.

Do you HAVE such critters in your small businesses? Every blasted lib I know (the ones who even work that is) already work for this government! But good luck uncovering and terminating as many libs/commies as possible. It’s a good start.

Absolutely right. healthcare will be a millstone around the Democrat neck unless they can turn 12 million illegals into voters before 2012. They intend to.

It is NOT a done deal, not until it is voted on, goes to committee is merged with the house bill and then voted on again in the house and the senate. Then it will be a done deal.

Wait till the illegal aliens get citizenship — the democrats will be in power forever. (It happened in Canada with new immigrants voting Liberal under Trudeau) Besides, society is becoming more liberal all the time. You’re getting more dumbing down of culture, the elevation of democrat values & “coolness” and free gifts from the government. The “now” conservatives that you read about in the polls will not remain conservative and were never conservative in the first place — they voted for Obama. They’ll change their tune. You can bet on it — the democrats do.

Under Clinton the bill was shot down but time has passed and society has been corroding ever since. Just look at what was broadcasting then compared to now. Just look at the complicit MSM and the tyranny and tactics of the democrats and the far left. I doubt if much can be done. Why the Europeanization of America is accepted by Americans beyond belief. The far left is a big player and their lair, the university, should be the first target for conservative strategists. This may take years and, like the surge in Iraq, you have to get the population on your side. But if society is going liberal then it may be near impossible.

There is one more way that the conservatives and Republican members can attempt to cause havoc on the bill going to conference.

Upon two germane bills going to conference, the House and Senate choose their members. The whole House has complete discretion over its selection of members. The Senate normally lets the leadership choose conferees, but there is a motion that allows for the Senate to select conferees in toto. This motion is divisible and may be debated according to the traditional rules of the Senate, which means that there has to be a cloture fight again. It would require one defector to the GOP side, but it may be possible (check Lieberman, Nelson).

Before each of you comment, I know that this procedural move is difficult to implement, but I just wanted to make all of you aware of one of the methods available to us before we throw our hands up in lamentations.

There is a strong possibility to kill this bill in conference since the House Democrats are severely fragmented. The goal of the Senate selection motion would be to stack the conference committee with so-called "moderates" who could pick a fight with the statists in the House.

Feel free to add other ideas to slow/stop this monstrosity as they come to mind.
