The planet may be saved after all, and it will only cost $100 billion.
Just as the Copenhagen climate summit appeared to be on the verge of unraveling, the United States Thursday announced its support of an annual $100 billion climate protection fund, the Associated Press reports.
The US is prepared to work with other countries toward a goal of jointly mobilizing $100 billion a year by 2020 to address the climate change needs of developing countries, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said.
Included in the conditions for the US' contribution, Clinton demanded that China's emissions reductions be scrutinized independently and that 193 countries sign a climate deal tomorrow. This would keep the US and other rich nations on top of developing countries who want them to increase emission cuts, the AP reports.
Clinton revealed that the U.S. would not be decreasing emissions by 2020 beyond the 4 percent it committed to in 1990.
While she would not disclose how much the U.S. would be contribution to the climate fund, Clinton said there would be a fair amount contributed to the pot that would be made available in 2020. The finances will reportedly be raised partially by taxing aviation and shipping, as proposed by the European Union.

I was thinking that the makeup that have in Copenhagen must really be spectaular.
We’re going to take things away from you for the common god/.
I was wondering about that.Anyone I ever met from Long island is a Bill OReilly no spin zone conservative.
I’m on a graduate student council. I have to say, it sounded like it was going to be a real pain in the rear, but once you get into it, getting to vote to spend other peoples money really is kind of fun.
The ship of fools continues to sail.
I dunno. How did W manage to send 15 bill to Africa every year? I always wondered about that. Does the Executive have a huge slush fund they can use to bribe foreign governments?
Swiss cheese is more solid than that.
PMAS, maybe there are a lot of Conservatives on LI but in my 15+ years of visiting inlaws on LI I have yet to detect any Conservatives....maybe a few squishy Rs but mostly just typical NY Libs. I think in contrast to the overwhelming Leftism one faces day after day in BLEW States just about any run of the mill Moderate will seem to be Conservative.
Hmmm, there is absolutely no place in my copy of the US Constitution that gives the Sec of State the power to appropriate and give away ANYTHING that belongs to the US taxpayers.
Awesome, I trying to make ends meet, and these guys are buying limos and palaces for some cleptocrats with money taken partly from me and future generations.
The article is a bit misleading- obama has said he can not commit more in copenhagen than what congress is prepared to commit in the states for cap-and-trade, which is $10- cutting greenhouse gases by %17 by 2020 (not that we should be committing one red cent to ANY of this fraud- but those are the facts accordign to the ap article this morni ng)
In the local Nassau County elections this past November — the Republicans took back control of the legislature and the County Executive post (like the Governor of the county).
The County Exec postion was held for a long time by Tom Suozzi — a Dem who the Dem party had high asperations for.

I think Americans overlook whatever funds we have to bribe I mean help other countries. But us giving this much money to what has proven to be a huge hoax has more people POed than Obama knows.
[[$14 TRILLION in debt, and we’re giving money to other countries???????????????????]]
Yup- instead of helping out failing states (there are 34 of them in finacial trouble because of reckless spending), we are isntead goign to send money overseas while those states back here that are failing raise and raise and raise their taxes makign it impossible for people to survive i nthsoe states anylonger.
Apparently a lot of people voted for o because they think Obama ‘cares about htis country’? Anyone that thinks that has a screw loose. When cap and trade goes through- busiensses wil lbe FORCED to lay off workers, unions will be forced to remove peopel from it’s payroll, and the economic fallout will cripple this coutnry even further- because produce prices, energy prices, fuel prices etc will skyrocket (not to mention healthcare prices (average of $15,200 p/y for middle income folks) will financially cripple everyone- all while the dems are screamign about how the GOP suppsoedly ‘doesn’t care about hundreds of thousands of people who will suppsoedly die as a result of not havign medical coverage (DESPITE the FACT that these uninsured ALREADU HAVE health services provided to htem FREE OF CHARGE if they don’t have coverage)
I LOL reading that for some reason thanks I needed a laugh.
