U.S. President Barack Obama has warned his Chinese counterpart that the United States would not be able to keep Israel from attacking Iranian nuclear installations for much longer, senior officials in Jerusalem told Haaretz.
They said Obama warned President Hu Jintao during the American's visit to Beijing a month ago as part of the U.S. attempt to convince the Chinese to support strict sanctions on Tehran if it does not accept Western proposals for its nuclear program.

The essential image Obama portrays with his approach is that of an effete, effeminate, weak kneed, yellow bellied, skinny kid barely holding onto the leash of a snarling pit bull. The image the President has to portray is that of a fully loaded U.S. Marine, backed by an army of modern tanks, with full air support from stealth bombers... all of that threatening power aimed at anybody who messes with one of our allies.
Well, that is at least one area where Obama agrees with President Bush in that the US will not help Israel in a strike on Iran.

During the 1967 War, Israel attacked the USS Liberty that was monitoring the progress of the war. Why? Will they be required to silence some US asset if they attack Iran? Will Zero betray an Israeli attack? I wonder.
I was in the Middle East on a mission prior to the 67 war..and the Liberty issue is still on my mind.

talked to a retired Navy captain who was attache in Egypt and in the grandstands when Sadat was killed in 81...had several deployments in ME...Lebanon just before the barracks attack for example...he had some interesting comments about the ME...said for example that Egypt never intended to destroy Israel in 73 and was surprised by their own success in early days of the war...in fact, had no planning (logistics) beyond the Sinai and therefore no ability to push on into the interior of Israel
he said that US did not offer to resupply munitions to Israel until Israel informed US that they were loading and arming atomic weapons on their jets and preparing for the final battle...US did agree to resupply, but irony is by time they got there, Israel had counterattacked and driven Egyptians back across the frontier. Egypt was making a show of force to impress Arabs and solidify position as primary Arab power but never expected their incursion to go so well. this ret Naval officer said that this was actually the 2nd of 3 times the IAF had prepared to deliver nuclear weapons.

why was Liberty attacked...what were they monitoring...who were they linked to...why did Israel take them out?
the ME is a confused mess...i am never sure how much the US really supports Israel. seems we want them there, but not too much. they did not respond to SCUD attacks from Iraq...because we asked them not to? its a long list.
what do you think the Liberty was doing? why was she attacked (i don’t think for one minute that it was a mistake...maybe a message...but not a mistake)
Iran gets the S-300 soon enough; won’t have to worry about Israel doing a preemptive strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.
