COPENHAGEN (Reuters) China has told participants in the U.N. climate change talks that it sees no possibility of reaching an operational accord this week, an official involved in the Copenhagen talks told Reuters on Thursday.
The official, who asked not to be identified by name, said the Chinese had suggested instead issuing "a short political declaration of some sort." It was not clear what that would say.
The official said negotiations were continuing to try to achieve a breakthrough that would still allow an operational agreement to be signed.
The development came as dozens of heads of state were descending on Copenhagen hoping to sign a new pact on Friday to tackle global warming.
Denmark said it was trying to simplify several complex draft negotiating texts to help about 120 leaders attending a summit on Thursday and Friday to agree on a deal.
The official said the sticking point for China appeared to be a process issue.
China told conference chairman Denmark on Wednesday night it was siding with developing nations, which rejected Denmark's efforts to select small negotiating groups to go through the assorted draft texts, saying the process had to be inclusive.

It's Over, Al! ;-)

Is it just me, or is the 0bamaoist agenda collapsing around the ears Zero and his faithful minions?
Here in NH, the DemonRATs are getting antsy. They are trying to pass the as much onerous anti-homeschooling, anti-Christian, anti-Liberty legislatioin as they can, even against wishes of the clear majority of the people.
I think they see the handwriting on the wall; a debacle for them in 2010.
It will take at least two legislative sessions to un-tangle the ungodly mess the DemonRATs have made since they commandeered the State government.
Karma sucks, huh?
I guess that is why Al Gore wants a meeting in July in Mexico to sign off on a treaty..
the clock is ticking.
China and Russia (and India) and where the grownups are on this “issue”. The toddlers are all here in the west. China is politely telling the west that they’re smoking some very bad crack. “A short political statement” i.e. mouth some platitudes, steal the hotel bathrobes and slippers, and hop on the jets and go home.
You knew it was a scam when they threw in free hookers and probably free wifi too..
They obviously don’t care about Polar Bears.
Panda Power. :-)
Maybe the funniest guy in the world really is Chinese.
Bamboo grows better in a warm climate.
July in Mexico will be so much hotter than December in Copenhagen, they'll use it as "proof" that global warming is ruining the earth.
Who thought Copenhagen in winter was a good place to show global warming, anyway? Thank you, whoever you are.
It takes a period of subzero weather to kill the stuff ~ plus gasoline.
Did you know that sign is on Darwin Rd?
No I didn’t. Thanks, very coincidental isn’t it?
A month back Obama went to China, and then announced a deal, like he could deliver China to Copenhagen. The next day the Chinese prez. himself announced there will be no outside verification. Punked, they call it.
Yes, it sure is testimony to how dumb these people are that they even chose a place like Copenhagen in December to have a pow-wow about Global Warming.
Then with at or near record cold happening there, one can’t help but laugh at these fools.
