Mecklenburg Co. Commissioner Bill James referred to another commissioners son as a homo during a meeting Tuesday. What should happen to James after this incident?
Waiting on Jessie Jackson and his crew to ride into town.lol
He should be made to buy dinner and drinks for the young man.
They might just hit it off and become a couple.
Give him a metal for breaking the bonds of political correctness. the guy might really be a homo, who knows.
Well, it depends on (a) is he a “homo”?, (b) aren’t we all homo(sapiens)?, (c) was anyone offended?.
Inquiring minds need to know
Is the son homosexual? If no, Mr James should be sued by the son for defamation of character. If yes, he should explain why that has any bearing on the discussion.
Despite the one sided questions, it looks like about a third think this is much ado about nothing.
Nothing will happen to Bill James. He’s been the liberals pet “intolerant republican” for years, and represents a way over-sized district in Southern Mecklenburg, where most of the growth has taken place over the last 15 years.
This all seems so very queer.
He should be removed from office or be forced to resign from office.

He should be reprimanded in some way.
15%
He should apologize to the offended commissioner.

Nothing should happen to him.

Im not sure.

“All you guys look like homos to me.”
“Lighten up, Francis.”
“If no, Mr James should be sued by the son for defamation of character.”
I doubt there’s a court in the US that would consider it defamation.
Nothing. If the shoe fits wear it. If not, kick his butt. PC has screwed up everything. A man takes up like a man and doesn’t use or cry to a lawyer.
That's what I'd say...
Why would that be defamation of character? Isn’t that a career booster for Politicians and Media types?
Call my son a hetero, and I’ll say “Yep,he sure is”.
CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The Mecklenburg County Commissioners passed a controversial domestic partner benefits policy during its meeting Tuesday night. (See related story)
Under the new policy, a Mecklenburg County employee who is in a same-sex relationship where both partners live together and share financial responsibilities, will now be eligible to receive county benefits for their partner as long as one of them is a county employee.
The discussion over the issue led to a contentious exchange of words between county commissioners Bill James (Republican) and Vilma Leake (Democrat).
During the public meeting, a conversation between the two was picked up by the microphones as they sat in their chairs.
We caution you that what was said may be considered offensive by some.
It all started after Leake made an impassioned speech about her son dying of AIDS.
“A son that I birthed and died of AIDS and I did not know that... in 2010 I would be sitting here... to defend his lifestyle,” Leake said.
After that revelation, tempers flared when James leaned over and whispered something to Leake about her late son and it was caught on the microphone.
Here is James’ comment and Leake’s response.
James: “Your son was a homo, really?”
Leake: “I’m going to hit you, don’t talk about my son that way.”
It may be hard to hear on tape, but after reviewing the tape several times, James used a term that many consider offensive to gays.
Again, this provocative exchange occurred in the open public meeting just before the commissioners voted to approve the policy.
On Wednesday, WBTV News requested an interview from James and in his email response, he did not apologize for the comment he made Tuesday night.
In his statement, James said that Leake was “a religious hypocrite” who “used her son’s lifestyle’ and his death from HIV-AIDS to justify voting for benefits to allow individuals to use tax dollars to engage in the same behavior that resulted in her son’s death.”
He also said “it is akin to someone whose son is an alcoholic and died from the disease, using his death from drinking as justification to have the taxpayers pay for more booze.” (Read James’ full statement.)
Leake told us she expects an apology and the community deserves one, as well. “To literally say what he said was unacceptable,” said Leake.
“I grieved because of it,” she said.
Jennifer Roberts, Chairperson of County Commission, said they will discuss the possiblity of censure or a reprimand for James.
“If we don’t do anything, we’re saying it’s okay to look the other way,” she said.
We want to know what you think about this exchange and the decision during Tuesday night’s Mecklenburg County commission meeting. Please comment at the bottom of the page
Is it true?
“We’re here, we’re Queer” is their mantra and they lead an alternative lifestyle of their choosing.
Their group is forever goading one another to come out into the open(I won’t go into the words and phrases they use), they are getting more “In your face” with inappropriate PDA, that even when hetersexual’s are in the throughs of performance find offensive.
Personally, I couldn’t care less what someone does in their bedroom but their Three Ream Circus Act is so old.
Okay, so you are gay. It doesn’t really offend anyone except when you are at the height of your Thespian Affectations, which at some point is just childish and annoying. At other times it’s offensive.
Gay People of the world, who fee they need to let everyone know they are gay: Lighten up, we accept you as a person and we don’t care if you are gay.
I am not a lawyer, but if the son is NOT gay, and Mr James said he was gay publicly, and apparently so as it is in the press, he has been defamed via slander. His good name has been stained, and he has cause for a suit.
I see your point but given the current PC climate I don’t see a court finding merit with the claim that being called a homo is a defamation of character.
I am sorry her son died from AIDS. I have had several friends die from AIDS and yes, there were gay.
Nomenclature for what is acceptable speech changes every couple of years and within groups.
Trust me. Gays say way worse than this and yet, if you are not a part of their group you are villainized every time you open your mouth.
