BIG NEW SUNSPOT
SpaceWeather ^ | December 16, 2009 | SpaceWeather

Posted on 12/16/2009 9:39:38 AM PST by SpaceBar

New sunspot 1035 is growing rapidly and it is now seven times wider than Earth. This makes it an easy target for backyard solar telescopes. ... The magnetic polarity of the spot identifies it as a member of Solar Cycle 24--the cycle we've been waiting for to end the deepest solar minimum in nearly a century. One spot isn't enough to end the lull, but sunspot 1035 could herald bigger things to come.

I hope the minimum is over. Last summer it was too cold to get in the pool in July and August. Here in Missouri that is unheard of!

Meanwhile, you have all the liberals, dictators, and tyrants in Copenhagen trying to figure out how to reverse the warming trend. IDIOTS!!

The end of global warming!!!

Yep.

First, find 1947 on this graph:

Then note the year of the largest sunspot ever recorded:

The largest sunspot ever recorded was visible in March and April 1947 and covered an area of over 7,000 million square miles; about a hundred Earths could be fitted into this area!

Half the working families have blown the whole bankroll, savings, borrowing, lost the job, no jobs available, unemployment checks ending and reading the Obama headlines “Recession is OVER” Talk about buyers hangover, America get ready for the 1930’s all over again.

folks, rthis is bad news i nthe fight agaisnt the alarmiost’s war agaisnt us- the sunpots cause warming, and if we warm again, the alarmists will simpyl say ‘see? We told ya- man is causing warming’ (scientists have known about sun posts cuasing warmign for a long time now, but NOONE listened to them- and NOONE will listen to them if we start warmign again- they will simply blame man and sday they were right all along.)

Last I heard, sunspots were diminishing, and we were suppsoed to be entering into a 30+ year cooling cycle- which would have been good for our fight agaisnt the alarmist nutjobs- but now htis? NOT good, as far as the fight against htem is concerned-

and other excitements increase...

And maybe some decent propagation on the high end of the HF spectrum to boot.

I think it’s really premature to say that one large cycle 24 spot heralds the end of cycle 24.

We don’t know.

That’s my scientific answer.

Calm down! It’s one spot!

It is what it is. Maybe there’ll be hundreds now, or maybe they’ll be none again for months.

Looks more like a freckle. The sun should use more protection when it goes out in itself.

Actually, that’s what the article says. This MAY be the beginning of the next cycle. So we should wait, watch, and see.

“We don’t know.

Theoretically speaking, strictly of course from a hypothetical standpoint?

Cycle 23 is what just ended. Cycle 24 is what hasn't really started yet.

At end of spaceweather.com writeup:

"One spot isn't enough to end the lull, but sunspot 1035 could herald bigger things to come."

Which is exactly what they said about the last sunspot, which was followed by 16 days of no sunspots...

The consensus among solar astronomers is that Cycle 24 will be longer and weaker than Cycle 23, which was extremely long and weak. Long and weak solar cycles favor cooling.

Further, there's this little gem: Sunspots may vanish by 2015.

If you haven't caught it, you might also be interested in Joe Bastardi's 30 year cooling prediction from a day or two ago.

Hope it was interesting!

Hey - didn't you post that last February?

And also in Spring of 2008?

This sunspot is a lot bigger though than those previous “Start of Cycle 24 Sunspots”. Yep, we'll see. Regardless, with the delay in getting started, Cycle 24 will probably have a much smaller maximum than the last few.

That should give us some cooling effects, along with some of the other cooling events at the moment (Pacific Decadal Oscillation is one, I think there is another something that is assisting cooling at the moment as well).

I just hope the cycle is low and doesn't drop off completely. Based on time cycles, we are due for another ice age. That would be a REAL drag.

The global warmers at Copenhagen are running out in the freezing cold to stare pray to the spot. They see it as an omen of good fortune, trillions of dollars of plundered fortune.
