Polygamous sect member convicted of sex assault in Texas

Eldorado, Texas » A 57-year-old member of a polygamous group raided by Texas authorities last year has been convicted of sexual assault of a child.

A Schleicher County jury in the West Texas town of Eldorado deliberated less than two hours Tuesday before convicting Allan Keate. He faces up to life in prison for his alleged so-called "spiritual marriage" to a 15-year-old girl who gave birth at age 16.

Keate was immediately taken into custody. The jury will hear more testimony before deciding his sentence.

Much of the prosecution's case relied on extensive church records seized from the Yearning For Zion Ranch in April 2008. One set of records indicated Keate had six wives, ranging in age from 17 to 49, in March 2007.

Keate is the second member of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to be convicted of sexual assault of a child in Texas.

This Dec. 14 article on testimony from this trial -- see Former plural wife discusses religious teachings in Texas FLDS trial -- shows "the prophet" determines who marries whom.

Quote from that article (feel free to discuss this on that thread as well): Musser said she knew of three levels of heaven, the top level being a state in which the man becomes a god and goes with his wives to "create their own worlds." She said she did not know of levels of hell.

(What people see themselves doing for eternity, well, they also do down here)

2 down, 20,000+ to go.

When I lived in Utah, I knew several polygamists, even today I have many friends who are former polygamists.

Women are property, families not taken care of, control is absolute, it is a horrendous life.

I was just thinking about that case and wondering what ever happened to it.

Statutory rape laws can be a b**** if the DA wants to go after them, kind of like tax evasion.

These guys do it all wrong. In this nation, Muslims, trailer-trash, ghetto-rats, and other useless parasites are welfare-collecting “spiritual” polygamists with teenage girls all day long, and never get in trouble for it. The trick is to never build a scary cult compound.

Their mistake is “marrying” these girls. If they just followed Hugh Hefner and Tiger Woods’ examples and only had sex with the girls out of “wedlock”, then there wouldn’t be any problems.

I didn’t know that Hugh Hefner and Tiger Woods had sex with girls under the age of 16. Cite please.

There WERE witches in The Crucible and there WERE Communists in the United States (which is what Mr. Miller’s novel was about).

Witchhunts don’t mean that there are no witches. It has to do with unfounded hysteria making something a big concern.

How many teachers have molested children in Texas just since this case broke? How many schools were raided?

Just saying. Prosecute the guilty. Don’t showboat for cameras as you raid the “compound” and tell the public how important this makes you.

Actually if they followed Joey Smith’s example and owned the whole town...Nauvoo, IL..

Or Brigham Young’s example and owned the whole state or territory ...Utah...

Then they could have one night stands with dozens of under aged girls with immunity...

Teachers possibly molesting children has nothing to do with the issue at hand.
I only used the term witch hunt because that was / is the term used by the defenders of the fldsers.
So unknott your britches, and stick to the point.

A witchhunt doesn’t mean “innocent”, but the media in Texas was overblown. But no, let’s take hundreds of people into custody and then sort it all out.

Meanwhile Al Qaeda operates in Texas and elsewhere without such raids.

Seriously? Is it possible for you to stick to the issue? Just asking the question all are thinking.

Why is this news?

That is my question.

Years and years and media attention.

For what?

Another “craaaazy Christian cult” expose?

Governor Good Hair being all upright?

What is the point?

First: fldsers are NOT Christian.
Second: it's news because children were / are being hurt and perps are going to jail.
Third: if it does not interest you, don't read the post.

Christian cults are “Christian” even if in name only.

Or maybe LDSers don’t believe in Jesus, you’ll have to tell me.

This is my state, my government pays for the prosecution but it also pays for the costs when the government overreacts. And paid to shelter the kids when they were taken into custody for over a month.

This was a “shoot them all and let god sort them out” approach. Legal overreach.

Prosecute the accused. What was the final “hit/miss” ratio to the number of people taken into custody and how many are actually being prosecuted?

Remember when the media remarked on some “poison recipe” (or antidote) that was found “on the compound”?

You don’t think that type of coverage what a “witchhunt”?

Children in Texas are abused every day. In public schools. In “coyote” fed whorehouses. And in churches.

Why not swoop down on the schools some day until the taxpayers can be confident that none of the teachers on staff are molesting any kids?

And Al Qaeda represents a branch of religious extremism as well. Homeland security knows they are here.

Why no raids?

Good to see someone convicted after all of this. But the state went about this the wrong way. And it still is inconsistent with the above examples.
