Woods voted top athlete of the decade
AP ^ | 12/16/09 | AP

Tiger Woods has been voted Athlete of the Decade by members of The Associated Press, his 10 years of incomparable golf outweighing nearly three weeks of a salacious sex scandal.

Just like so many of his 64 victories worldwide and 12 majors dating to 2000, it wasn't much of a contest.

Woods received 56 of the 142 votes cast by AP member editors. More than half of the ballots were returned after his Nov. 27 car accident which set off the sensational tales of infidelity that have tarnished Woods' image.

Lance Armstrong, a cancer survivor who won the Tour de France six times this decade, finished second with 33 votes, followed by tennis Grand Slam champion Roger Federer with 25 votes.

Woods had more PGA Tour titles in one decade than all but four of golf's greatest players won in their careers.

“note- neither Daly nor Pavin won the award.”

Ask Charles Barkley or Michael Jordan how easy golf is...and how long is the list of older scratch golfers who retired from other sports and went on to be superstar golfers?

Lance Armstrong, Brett Favre and Michael Phelps are all excellent choices.

Tim Tebow is also a great choice since he is a Christian and a great quarterback.

Whetehr or not golf is a sport depends on what is a sport. Some seem to think the more exertion required, the more of a sport. If that is the case then lumberjacking is a sport.

I don’t see how annyone can argue against Tiger’s athleticism.

But in any case, for the other fools bantering over what is or is not a sport, Tiger won for his domination.

Although Tiger is an extremely talented golfer and deserves all he has achieved, to pick him as the athlete of the decade is a mistake. I think you have to measure talent and character when picking someone whom our children look up to and in many cases try to emulate. This is especially true for the disadvantaged children. This pick sends the message that if you have talent all other aspects of the person is overlooked. VERY BAD CHOICE.

“Golf is a great way to get excercise if you walk and good great way to enjoy alcohol with friends. LOL”

There’s a private club up the mountains here that has a telephone and menus at the 9th green to order the drinks they can bring you at the 18th green and have your meal ready for you at the clubhouse.

“Game” has nothing to do with the semantics of what is or isn’t an athlete......Free Cell is a game also.
