ATHEIST author Philip Pullman yesterday spoke of his disgust at the triumphalism of Americas religious right following its successful campaign to sideline attempts to dramatise the last two books in the writers His Dark Materials trilogy.
Actor Sam Elliott, who starred in the film version of the first novel The Golden Compass, that grossed £230m, says a campaign by conservative Catholics has halted plans to complete the trilogy.

God is laughing at him.
People who hate imagination also tend to be severely lacking in it.
but...but...Michael Moore says that the government should help people make movies...
**Michael Moore says that the government should help people make movies...**
Moore should finance my movie...it’s called “Michael Moore is a Fatassed Hypocrit”
If he So Openminded.. he should instead of waiting for the Government.
OH that’s right... what was I thinking.
Read the first book. Didnt like the bias. The estranged bought the other two for the children. Read them and did something I have never done before. threw them out in garbage so they were unsalvageable.
the hate of all Christian permeated the book.
The films...big Hater rollout. but parents wont take their kids into haters..particularly self haters.
This is just too juicy an opportunity for them to pass up:
“The so-called “religious right”, as always, intolerant of free expression, so quick to be offended, has made it impossible for us to bring our wonderful vision to the public”. Convenient excuse for people making a timid business decision because they don’t really believe their product can stand on its own.
Boo hoo...
Sam Elliott hides the fact that the movie was a flop, hence the studio decided that it wasn’t worth it to make the sequels
it GROSSED 230 million, but I’m guessing it was a NET loss for the business
Let's blame it on--- oh, I know--- "Man, those Catholics are intolerant."
But note that I also said, "if it made...," that much; however, it only grossed that much, and either made zilch, or even lost money.
I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough; I sometimes tend to expect people to read my mind as well as they read my words.
Which religion do I blame for the lack of a “Master and Commander” sequel?
He said: Jesus said all kinds of stuff that Im a complete supporter of. If the Church had taken notice of what Jesus had said the world would be a much better place.
This actually just proves that he never actually read what Jesus said except for snippets that he’s heard 2nd hand.
If anything the Church tend to water down Jesus to make him more appealing to the regular folks. The real Jesus is actually much harsher.
This is, after all, the one who said things like “And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell.” and “Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division.”
“Jesus isn’t going to come back looking like Ted Nugent....no, he’s going to look like Charles Bronson...and he’s going to be gd’d pissed off.” - Robin Williams.
