WASHINGTON The House on Tuesday voted to level off the abrupt spikes in volume felt by television viewers during commercial breaks.
The bill approved by a voice vote is aimed at stopping TV ads from playing noticeably louder than programs.
"It's very frustrating," said Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Va. "It's an annoying experience, and something really should be done about it."

I have little patience for commercials and even less for congressional micromanaging.

We live in a bizzaro world.
Could they possibly be working on anything less significant?

When are they going to do cable ala carte?
They’ve toyed with it, but never seem to get around to doing something really useful.

What makes Congress think that this is any of their business? Interstate commerce?

If it was transmitted via the public airways, I could see the argument.
Cable, not so much.

...And while the Congress of the United States is engaged in solving all of our problems, how about those annoying radio ads that repeat the phone number 3 or 4 times in a winy voice...

Did they exclude their own campaign ads just as they excluded politicians from the Do Not Call list legislation?

Could they possibly be working on anything less significant? Well...there was that committee vote on college football playoffs.

Congress shouldn’t waste their time on trivial issues like loud TV commercials.
Congress should spend their time on more important issues, like mandating a National Championship playoff for NCAA Division I-A football teams. /sarc

It’s an FCC issue (not sure where in section 1 that falls under), but for some reason they want to handle it at a congressional level.
I’m happy to protect my own ears.

I have the urge to go to Washington with a TV to play loud advertisments for non-playoff BCS games. I want Congressional heads to explode like the empty pumpkins they are.

Good point, but I expect there’s a clause in that legislation that limits how fast Vince, the ShamWow Guy, can speak.
Gotta admire our Congress - double-digit unemployment and they’re busy saving us from having to use our mute button when a plug for Metamucil shows up on the tube.
